I was completely terrified by Mercury's sudden dark spirit. Although I should've expected it from Marcus telling me he was going to be like this, I didn't realize it was going to be this bad. I was hesitant a little bit grabbing my backpack and Crystal Mayhem, but I looked at the picture sitting on the end table of my mom and dad. I smiled and took the picture out of its frame, folding the picture up and placing it in my pocket before I went out to the living room to meet Mercury. I saw him standing there in front of the front door, smirking as we went outside. I started to walk away from the house when I saw Mercury turn around, placing a fire Dust in the middle of the room. I was wondering what he was doing when I saw him kick his boot out, a missile flying from his boot and hitting the Dust, making it explode and start a house fire.
"Mercury, what did you do?! You're going to burn the house down!"
"That's the damn point, Zuri!" He shouted triumphantly, "That bastard of a father went too far this time, way too far! And he's going to pay for it!"
"Mercury, this isn't right! He saved your life!"
"And he could've helped in that fight to save you! But no, he stayed inside doing god knows what. And then he takes my legs away, replacing me with these. What good can these do, Zuri, tell me!"
"Hey, what's going on?" I heard a voice close behind me. I turned to see Marcus, his eye's red from drinking and his footing stumbling. I was about to say something, but as soon as I opened my mouth, his hand came right across my face, knocking me right to the ground.
"That's it!" I heard Mercury scream as I looked at his menacing glare at his father.
"Mercury, don't do it!" I screamed as my best friend charged at his father. I ducked as Mercury flew through the air by firing a shot from his boots, hitting Marcus back when he hit his chest. I watched as Marcus got back up, Mercury coming in for another shot, but Marcus blocked it in time, throwing a punch that hit Mercury in the face, forming a bruise under his left eye and a cut on his lip. Mercury came back though, blasting Marcus back again, grabbing him by the arm as Mercury spun around him, kicking his father in the face. I watched as I saw Marcus' aura completely diminished, as he lay there, barely breathing. Mercury stood over his father with a grimace across his face, the horror in my eyes taking it all in.
"Rot in hell, you bastard!" Mercury yelled as he lifted his leg, kicking Marcus in the head as a loud bang ran all through the surrounding forest. I watched as Mercury stood victorious over him, his father dead on the ground beside him. I looked at Mercury as he turned to me, sighing. I lifted myself off the ground as I walked over slowly to him, shaken by what my best friend has done. "Zuri..."
"Mercury..." I stuttered until I looked behind me, two women coming up the trail, "Mercury, look behind you." He looked surprised as he turned around, his eyes growing wise.
"Zuri, get out of here! You have to go now okay?" Mercury said, caressing my face as we panicked, not sure whether or not the two women walking towards us were working for Salem or not.
"No, I'm not-" I began to argue until Mercury crashed his lips onto mine. My soul felt like it was on fire as he finally kissed me, light and free. And surprisingly, I enjoyed it. We let go, his grey eyes full of panic.
"Go, okay? I'll find you again, I promise."
"Mercury-"
"Zuri, I can take them, but you have to get out of here, now!"
"But-"
"Go!" he said as I nodded slowly, not wanting to leave. I picked up my bag, as my best friend turned away from me out of breath, his legs bleeding from where his legs were connected hours before, his dead father and the man who took me in all those years ago dead next to him. I watched as the house was finally engulfed in fire, collapsing to the ground, as I ran out of sight from Mercury Black.
