I wake up and the truck is moving. Not knowing what was happening, I shoot myself up and try to wake Hayes. But I can't find him. I look to the drivers seat and see him.
"Babe, why are you driving so early?" I look to the clock on the dashboard. "It's only 8:23." "I know, I know, I just wanna get there already."
"You know I can drive while you take a break right?" I say as I climb into the passengers seat. "Ashley. You're 14, you don't even have your drivers permit."
"In my defense, some guys think I'm 16 at the oldest! And! I'm just offering yanno, putting it out there so that you can take a break for a while." My hands raised.
"Some guys oh?" Hayes looks at me with a raised brow. "No one as special as you." "I know." He responds trying to act modest. "How long have you been driving anyways?" "About an hour or two."
"Head for some breakfast?" "Hell yea, I'm hungry as fuck Grier." We find a nearby McDonalds and pull in through the drive thru. I ordered some pancakes with a strawberry smoothie and Hayes ordered pancakes with a breakfast sandwich.
At the pick up window I hand him a twenty that he actually takes this time, we grab our food and continue our drive. "Hayes look! Look at the small beach! Let's go over there!" He laughs at my excitement and turns into the beach's direction, parks in front of it, and we begin eating our breakfast.
We ate in silence for about 5 minutes. "I can't wait for L.A. much longer, can't wait to be free. You know? Just be able to make your own choices for once rather than having other people constantly plan out your future." I take a deep breathe and let it out in relief.
"How do you see your future?" "I see it in L.A. Following my passion in singing, maybe a little bit of art, beautiful big house, sunny days, shopping centers. Two kids. I see it with you." "You'd be a great mommy." "You'd be a great daddy." I smile. "Baby names." "If it's a girl, Isabella. And Mark if it's a boy." We look into each other's eyes. He smiled at the thought of the future.
I was about to speak until I saw a police car parked two cars away from us. "Hayes." I swallowed. I was nervous and beyond scared of what might happen. "What if they're looking for us? What if he comes over and asks us if we seen two runaway teens?"
"Ash," he put his hand on my thigh. "Look at me and take a deep breath. They probably haven't even made this car out. Calm down. We'll leave right now if you want to, okay?" "Y-yeah, let's leave now." I shakily say. He starts the car and we get back on the road.
"Relax baby, we're almost there." He rested his hand on my thigh as I placed my hand over his. "Yeah, we're almost there." I smile.
