I walked down the stairs and the smell of my mothers famous spaghetti overwhelmed me. Something was up. My mom only made spaghetti on special occasions or when she had news that I wouldn't particularly like.
"Sit down honey," Mom said with a nervous smile.
"Mom. I know that somethings up. You made spaghetti."
"Oh yeah, that. I guess you know my tricks. " Again, nervous laughter. I was starting to get nervous, too.
"Um. Well Katherine, you know how your father left last year?"
Oh of course it was about Dad. What else. Last year my father, Daniel, was acting really suspicious. We came to find out that he had been cheating on my mom with our family "friend". My mom called it quits and he left, never to be heard from again.
"No Mom, I don't remember how he was a lying, pathetic cheater," I said sarcastically.
My mom looked at me again, this time with a hint of disapproval. "It was for the best, you know that."
"Whatever."
"Well, I just wanted to let you know that I've been wanting to start dating again and tonight I'm going on a date."
"That- That's great, Mom," I said, not wanting to hurt her feelings. In reality, I hated the idea of my mom dating again. I thought that what happened with her and Dad would happen again. I guess it's the same thing with me and Macy. Maybe I should follow the example my mom is setting and be brave. I'm going to give Macy a chance. I will go to her house tomorrow.
