The next day when I got to school I could tell that things had changed. I walked into English class and sat down in my usual corner. I got out my journal and began to write when I was rudely interrupted by a familiar voice.
"Hey Katherine! I'm really looking forward to you coming over today. I was thinking that maybe you could even stay for dinner! How does that sound?" I looked up slowly and saw Macy's bright, happy face smiling at me.
"Oh, y-yeah, sure. I'll just h-have to ask my mom..."
"Well of course! You can use my phone if you want!"
"Thanks."
I dialed my moms number and she picked up right away.
"Hi Katherine. Is everything okay?"
"Yeah Mom, I was just wondering if I could stay for dinner at Macy's house?"
"Well...You know how happy I am that you are making friends again but I was really hoping that you would stay home and meet my date."
This again. I now really wanted to go to Macy's house for a different reason.
"Maybe another time Mom. I really want to go to Macy's house."
"Okay sweetie, if you say so. I love you. Have a good day."
I turned to Macy and told her that I was allowed to stay. She smiled a huge smile. I smiled back, but soon her smile began to fade.
"What's wrong?" I said, just as I felt someone breathing in my neck.
