I put my hands to my mouth. He looks up at me. He pulls out a box, and opens it in front of me. It's a golden ring that looks like its braided with silver, with a small shiny diamond in the middle. It was so beautiful. "Juliette, If I can describe you in ten words, they would be beautiful, perfect, amazing, talented, friendly, down-to-earth, breathe-taking, mind-blowing, eye-gazing piece-of-work. It sounds stupid, but it's true. I love you Juliette, you make me the happiest man in the world, never change my love. I could hold you in my arms forever. You make me feel free. My heart beats for you, and your heart beats for me. They beat in sync, which represents our everlasting love for each other. Will you marry me, love?" They are the exact words from the letter. I feel a tear coming down my face. "Yes, I want you to be mine forever Paul." He slips the ring on my finger. He gets up and picks me up and spins me around. "I feel like I've loved you all my life." He says. "But one question," I respond to him. "What?" "We're only eighteen. Isn't that young?" I say to him, concerned. "Age is only a number love, and I'm sure that I want to spend the rest of my life with you." I kiss him, and for the first time, I feel weightless, like I'm not in reality. His kiss is sweet. His lips fit perfectly with mine, like we're meant to be together. We kiss for the longest time. It's magic, I think, nothing could come as close to perfect than this. "That was the kiss you were waiting for?" He asks. "Yes," I said to him. "We'll it was sure worth waiting for." He sit on the sand together, watching the calm waves. "I think that we should tell someone still about what happened to you. I know that you don't want to think about it, but the thought of him still walking around here disgusts me" he whispers to me. "It's my last year of high school, and we can just change chemistry classes. Plus, I made love to you after, so now there is no proof that he even did anything. Yes it still haunts me and always will, but I feel safe with you. It will all be over soon before you know it." He gives me a small soft, rosy kiss, and I lean my head on his shoulder. "But if he comes close to you, I will kill him." I laugh, knowing that he's telling the truth.
Later, he drops me off at my house. I have to tell my dad what happened. It's 11:30, but I don't care. I go upstairs to wake my dad up. "Daddy?" I whisper to him. "Yes sweetheart?" He looks at me, rubbing his eyes from the light. "Im engaged to Paul." He looks at me, and says "I know, sweetheart, last week while he was in Germany he called in and asked if it was alright for him to buy you and engagement ring." "You said yes?" "Well, obviously if its on your finger, darling." I kissed him goodnight and ran downstairs. I walked out the door. Who cares if its midnight, I'm going to Paul's. that was the sweetest thing, to ask my dad first. I guess he did think about me while he was in hamburg.
I quietly go in through the back door, and tip toe upstairs. I walk into his room, and he is sleeping. I shake him to wake him up, and he looks at me startled. "Why are you here?" He said, sounding scratchy. "I love you" I say. I couldn't think of anything else to say, really. "I love you to, Juliette, I always will" he gestures for me to get in bed with him. I do. We cuddle for a while, while he hums sweet melodies into my ear. "Thank you, for asking my dad first. That was shocking, because I didn't know that you had thought about me on the trip." He's silent for a while before saying "I always think about you."
It's quiet for the rest of the night.
