Chapter 5

I woke up, feeling dazed of what happened yesterday. Wait - did that incident REALLY happen?

I thought back to the events that occurred 'yesterday'. The blood pond, the corpse, the shadow...

And the weird feeling.

I remembered that strange feeling clearly; hunger for blood, lust for death...

I shook my head. It is just a dream, I insisted to myself.

But WAS it a dream? More of a nightmare, I thought.

I remembered the deal I made with the Devil; everyone in the village would be healthy forever. Only I had to give my mortality. Was I really immortal?

I wanted to see if the event that occurred yesterday was real; I put on my clothes, and ran up to Lilly's house to visit Lisa. Today was Sunday, so I didn't have to work.

Once I reached the nicely-kept house, I halted; the door was open. Lilly had NEVER left the door open. Something was wrong...

I opened the door wider, and walked through the pine-smelling hall towards Lisa's bedroom. It seemed like an eternity before I finally reached the door.

I knocked on it slightly.

"Lisa?" I was concerned.

My mind suddenly rushed through the worst prediction; Lisa died.

The door must have been open because Lilly went to the daughter's funeral.

However, my horrid prediction could have been wrong.

I opened the door, and peeked into the room - nobody was there.

My prediction seemed to become more truthful at every second.

I searched the entire house; not a soul in sight.

I started to panic, and rushed towards our local church; Maybe Lisa's funeral was occurring now.

As I reached the graveyard by the church, my eyes widened; there was a new grave, and a large crowd was standing around it.

"No..." I croaked, my eyes stinging.

I dragged my feet up to Lisa'a grave. On my way, I found Lilly standing by the grave silently.

Strange.

A normal mother would cry her heart out if her child died.

However, Lilly didn't cry. Not even she a TEAR.

I started to doubt that Lilly was a caring mother, even through all the things that I saw Lilly do for her beloved child.

I ascended towards the grave. Then I read the name:

'Charles. He was a brave lad.'

Charles?Who was Charles? And why didn't he have a surname?

"Lilly," I whispered towards the blonde, skinny woman, "Who was Charles?"

"He was a young dog who rescued Peter from a wild boar." She whispered back.

I suddenly remembered Peter, the three-year-old boy who's entire family had brown eyes and hair. I searched the crowd for the boy, yet he was absent.

Probably resting after the incident.

"And were is Lisa?" I asked Lilly.

A wide grin appeared on her face.

"A miracle happened," she sighed happily, "she had become healthy in one night. God answered my prayers. Right now she is with her friend. Why?"

"Nothing." I smiled.

So Lisa didn't die! A wave of relief spread over me, erasing all the negative thoughts and emotions.

The deal with the 'shadow' was real.

I glanced at Emily and Arnold, the eighty-year-old couple. They looked MUCH healthier than the last time I saw them- which was two days ago.

Also the other villagers which seemed vaguely familiar looked healthier than usual; Their wrinkles vanished. The dark circles and bags under their eyes disappeared, and the ones who needed sticks to walk were now without them.

Thank God!

Everyone in this village were healthy. I was now immortal, so I could also spend centuries to find cures for unknown diseases for other villages and towns.

Life was getting better ever every second.
