Chapter 4

The pond colour started to change; instead of a calm, dark-blue, the pool was now red.

It was blood.

There was splashing in the pond; I thought it was fish, however I was wrong.

What was splashing in the pond was much larger than fish - it was an undead corpse.

Even though it was dark, I could still make out its details; it had brown, rotten skin. It's eyes were bloodshot, and veins were popping out from its arms. It was missing teeth, and the remaining teeth were as black as the night.

Despite its gruesome features, the corpse didn't seem to be evil- it was lost, afraid, and doomed. Doomed to roam the lands, and never finding its resting place.

The trees seemed to turn into dark, cruel creatures. They were hungry for souls. They reached for me, but never hurt me.

The whisperings were louder, saying phrases such as 'help us', and 'save yourself'.

Spiders crawled from the trees, and scurried across my feet. Snakes seemed to wrap around my throat, but when I felt it, there was nothing. Maybe I was afraid. Maybe I was seeing things that weren't there.

What was happening at this place? Was I imagining things? Was the devil playing with my mind?

"Well done." A cruel voice said. I flinched.

"What?" I kept turning around, trying to find the source of the voice.

"You were right with the last question, only I wasn't playing with your mind." I realised it was a man's voice.

What, did he just read my mind? Or did I ask the question aloud? And what did he mean by 'you were right with the last question'? Was he really the Devil?

"Correct." He, or IT, answered. He really can read minds!

"Who are you?" I asked, trying to keep my voice from shaking. I didn't believe the 'Devil' theory. He was just playing a joke on me.

"You don't believe me?" The voice mocked me.

I shook my head.

"No."

Suddenly, a shadow started to appear before me.

However, it wasn't cast on the ground, or any other surface. The shadow actually seemed to be floating. Smoke swirled around and inside it, giving it an eery presence.

"I am the spirit of Evil."

I was a very religious person, and I believed in the Devil and God almighty. I wanted to pray to remove its presence, but the voice stopped me.

"Don't."

One simple word could affect me worse than a lightning shock.

I felt dread spread through my body, and the 'snakes' wrapping tighter around my neck. I was very close to suffocating.

"What do you want from me?" I questioned. I felt my legs shaking and fingers trembling. I couldn't hide my fear anymore.

"It's not what I want from you, but what you NEED from ME." The devil emphasised on 'need' and 'me'.

Did I need something from it?

"Yes you do." The 'shadow' seemed to form facial features - they were horrid. There were two red dots which represented the eyes, a nose and sharp teeth. The Devil grinned.

"Don't you want to save the girl's life? Lisa, I presume." It smirked.

I hesitated. I wanted to help my little angel so badly, I would agree to anything. However, the Devil was evil and a trickster. How could I trust it?

"Don't worry, my deal is very benefiting; I give the girl life, and every villager health. That will mean they will NEVER get sick."

"And what do you want from me?" My voice trembled.

"You don't really GIVE anything. You just earn. You will become immortal, and that is all. As I have said, my deal is VERY beneficial." It grinned even wider, revealing its teeth.

If I was any other person, I would faint or run away. However, I wasn't- after all the stress I've been through, this was NOTHING.

This was a good deal. I didn't have to give my soul, or anything like that. My deal was much better that the deals that were made in stories of my childhood.

"I accept." I nodded my head slightly.

The Devil came closer. It lifted its arm, and placed its arm on my chest; where my soul was. It sunk into me, giving me a buzz of energy. The energy was strong and powerful, yet it was negative.

My body started to convulse, And I felt oozy liquid drooling down my neck, from my ears.

The feeling was as if a thousand electric eels and jellyfish were stinging me. It felt horrible, but at the same time...it felt good.

The feeling was pleasurable. I felt hungry for blood, and I needed to kill something, SOMEONE.

I wanted to change my mind. I wanted to break the deal, and to make my diabolical hunger disappear.

Suddenly, the horrid feeling was gone.

And so was the Devil.
