Chapter 7

"Are you joking?" I inquired, feeling annoyed that someone would do such a cruel joke on me so they could laugh.

The grim expression on Wilbur's face said it all.

"Who started this? Who thought I have drowned?" I questioned my stunned boss, and gestured towards the crowd, which was staring at me intently.

"I have."

A twenty-year-old woman emerged from the curious crowd.

She was one of those women who giggled when I undressed.

"And why did you think this?" I asked.

"The last time I saw you - which was 4 hours ago - you dived into the water. The shore was quite small, so I could have seen you if you emerged from the water." She sighed, "I was worried that you were under the water for two hours, and any HUMAN would have died in maximum three minutes underwater. Can you explain yourself?" She hissed.

I flinched at her cold tone ; I could have almost thought that she was DISAPPOINTED with me. Why would she care anyways?

"I found a small boulder I could sit on and watch the beautiful sky." I lied.

"ISN'T it breathtaking?" I pointed towards the sky.

I could feel the blood drain from my face.

Where my eyes playing tricks on me?

I kept gaping at the sky, blinking repeatedly in disbelief.

The entire world around me went black. Still.

The only THING that was moving was in the sky.

And it wasn't a cloud.

A demon-like creature flew above me, screeching every second.

It came closer, and flew towards the ground.

I wanted to run. I HAD to. I tried to lift my foot, ready to sprint, yet it seemed like tonnes of weights were strapped onto them. I couldn't even budge.

The creature had blood-red, piercing eyes. It had dragon-like, black wings, and dagger-like teeth. I bet that even the slightest touch on one of them would cause your hand to bleed.

It was a gargoyle.

I have heard many myths and legends about it, but, of course, have never SEEN one.

What was happening to me?

Why was I seeing mythological creatures?

Just like the incident with the mermaid, as the creature neared me, all of the shock and fear disappeared.

Brother.

That was the first thing that had come into my mind.

A part of me wanted to kill it, or at least run away and hide from this horrid creature. Yet the other part wanted to be near the gargoyle. It seemed to be a part of me.

I held out my hand to touch this amazing being.

As I did so, it stuck out its serpent-like tongue.

And licked my hand.

It left a trail of a stinging, burning sensation behind.

I backed away from the gargoyle, examining my hand.

No burn. No blood.

Instead, there was a strange black mark embedded on my palm.

It showed the symbol of the Devil.

I was Satan's servant now, I just knew it.

The sensation that I experience a while ago started again; I felt large waves of negative energy spread through me. My eyes started to water.

My body started to convulse.

So much pressure seemed to be applied to my head that I thought my skull would crack at any moment.

It was the same feeling I had when I made a deal with my master.

My master?

Why did I call the Spirit of Evil like that?

Even though a part of me didn't want to kill the gargoyle, I just HAD to. It did this to me. It imprisoned me.

I lunged at it, dodging its deathly claws. It tried to use its tail to trip me, but thankfully I had a fast reaction and sprinted away.

A roar escaped its mouth. It was an agonised, disappointed roar.

It knew I didn't want to accept my fate. It was upset that I didn't want to call IT 'brother'.

I gagged at the thought. I wouldn't serve anything evil, or call a demon 'brother'.

I jumped behind it, and grasped its scaly grey head.

I let out its last screech.

CRACK.

I had twisted its disgusting neck.

Blood drooled out in pools, and I was desperate to drink it.

My throat itched for its blood.

I bent down, cupping the oozy red liquid in my hands.

"NO!" I screamed, a spilled the blood on the ground.

I don't want this, I thought.

Suddenly, the frozen world had turned back to normal.

Women screamed, and men roared with anger.

What did I do but kill evil?

"KILLER!" Wilbur screamed.

"MURDERER!" The mother of Peter screamed.

"I helped you! I killed the offspring of evil!" I exclaimed, obviously upset for villagers accusing me of killing something so gruesome.

I glanced at Lilly, whose eyes were wide with shock.

What did I do?

I glanced at the gargoyle.

My body froze from terror, my guts twisted, my heartbeat almost stopped.

What lay on the ground wasn't a beast.

It was the body of an innocent child, neck snapped in half.

Her blonde hair covered her innocent face, and her cheeks were drained of blood.

Lisa.
