When Lyra was in college she gained the attention of Duke Sterling. Duke was 6' 0" and muscular. He was in his late 30s, darker brown skin not attractive in Lyra's opinion but not really ugly. He invited her to cook outs and parties from New York to Maryland every weekend.

Duke liked kissing Lyra's hands, cheeks or forehead when he greeted her, she wasn't comfortable with it but she didn't stop him. When she was around he hugged her to him, kept his arms around her or held her hand to keep her close to him. He was always checking on her, he listened whenever she spoke and always smiled when she was near.
Lyra discovered Duke was the leader of a gang called the Family. The Family owned businesses in every state from New York to Maryland. James and Wallace King, King's older cousins, were higher ranking members within the family. The higher ranking members treated her like a little sister, they looked out for her and protected her.

Lyra was having a good time with Ashlie, Dro, and his cousins. Lyra received several presents from her new friends in the Family mostly clothes, jewelry and shoes. Jam gave her a set of throwing knives and promised to teach her how to use them.
