Grace's P.O.V

(FlashBack)
"EVERYONE ON THE GROUND!! NOW!!" The man in the mask yelled, and barged into the mall with at least ten other men in masks behind him. My parents grabbed me, and they began to run. A shot fired, and it grazed my fathers shoulder. My mother screeched, and she was tackled by a man. "Get off of my wife!" My father yelled, and found himself onto the man and threw him off of her. Another man appeared and he had his gun pointed at my mother. The shot fired, and my father leapt in front of her. Blood trickled down his forehead and he fell with a silent thud. My mother screeched again, and flung herself onto the man with the gun. The man was taken by suprise, and shot her in the throat. Blood splattered onto my face, and my breath hitched as she fell to the floor. She chocked on her own blood, and then stopped moving. My breath quickened, and the man pointed his gun at me. Tears streamed down my face. The man only laughed and raised his gun. He brought it down, and everything seemed to stop. The last thing I remembered was being hit on the head, hard.

I sighed, looking out of the car window as we pull up to the orphanage. The lady driving steps out of the car, and I step out as well. The lady grabs my hand and leads me into the orphanage. We head down a hall, and towards what seems like an office. The lady opened the door and walked in, still holding my hand. There was another lady sitting at a desk, and she looked up. "Ah, I see you have brought Grace. Show her to her new room and new roommate, please." The lady smiled warmly, and the lady holding my hand nodded. We stepped out of the office and began heading down another hall. 'How many halls are there in this place?' I thought as we went down two more halls, and stopped at a door. She opened it, and gently pushed me in. "Just ask Emily any questions, she's been here the longest." The lady mumbled the last part, and she stepped out of the room and closed the door behind her. My hazel gaze scanned the room, and they landed on a bunk bed. The top bunk looked in-use, and the bottom bunk looked recently left. 'Where is-' The bathroom door opened, and a girl stepped out. She had blue eyes, and light dirty blonde hair. She was wearing a blue tank top, and jeans. Her face was a little red, and she looked like she had been crying. She noticed me, and she quirked a brow. "I'm Grace, and I'm guessing you're Emily?" I said nervously and she nodded. "So, anyone questions?" She asked as she climbed up onto her bunk. "Just a few, but some might be personal.." I replied. She rolled her eyes and sighed. "Ask away." I nodded, and hesitantly went to my bunk. "How long have you been here?" "10 years." "How old are you?" "11."
I stopped. 'She's been here for her whole life?!' I thought, shocked at what I had just learned. Emily looked down at me. "Suprised?" I hesitantly nodded, and she just chuckled. "Don't be, now let me ask you some questions." I nodded 'ok', and she began asking questions.
"How old are you?"
"12"
"Favorite color?"
"Blue."
"Cool, mine too."
We began to chat for a while, and we didn't realize how late it was getting. "Lights out, children!" A woman called, and then all power went off. "Well, hopefully you'll like it here, because I surely don't. Goodnight, Grace." I was confused why she didn't like it here, the ladies who worked here seemed so nice! "Goodnight Emily." I replied, and laid down. I closed my eyes and began to drift. I fell asleep, but after a while, I woke up. I looked at the room, and no sunlight drifted thru the window. "Emily, are you awake?" I whispered, and to my suprise, she replied. "Yeah, I don't sleep much." I nodded, knowing that she would see me. "What time is it?" She took a few minutes to reply. "Probably, twelve or one in the morning." I started to get tired again, but I wanted to know more. "Why don't you s-sleep?" I yawned. "I like the night, it's interesting. Lets just go to bed." I heard her roll over, and a little while after, her breathing slowed. I took this as a sign she was already sleeping. I closed my eyes, and sighed. I wondered what my new life would be like here.
