Emily's P.O.V
My room was dark. It was quiet, and the feeling of loneliness floated around me. It seems that this torment doesn't show any signs of stopping anytime soon, and I knew I couldn't do anything about it. I slumped against the wall, tired but unwilling to go to sleep. My slumber wasn't peaceful anymore, it was filled to the brim with thoughts of rotting in the orphanage forever. I blinked once, twice, and I noticed the darkness getting closer. I let out a small sigh and laid down on my bed, not caring if my only blanket covered me or not. I closed my eyes. I fell asleep quickly, being the type of child that gets stressed often and the stress making them tired. The thoughts of Peyton and Grace graze my mind, making me think of their happy expressions when they were still here, and I wasn't alone. I grinned ever so slightly, and a tear rolled down my cheek. I continued to sleep, and the thoughts still lingered.

The sound of knocking woke me. I rubbed my eyes, yawning and rolling my neck before getting off of the top bunk. I walked up to the door and opened it. "Hello, Emily. I'm sorry I woke you, but I have noticed you haven't been going to the cafeteria and eating. I've asked the other children, and they told me that you haven't been leaving your room at all. Is this true?" It was Jane, and I nodded. Her gaze turned soft and she walked fully into my room. She grabbed my hand, and sat me down on the floor. She sat down as well. "You may not believe me, but I have been in the same situation was you. Infact, that's why I'm working here. I was adopted, but when I was twenty, I came back here. I've been working here for ten years, and I promise you," She grabbed my hand again, and held it. "that things will get better." She smiled sweetly at me, and pulled me in for a hug. I hugged her back, glad that I had someone on my side. She broke off the hug and stood up, helping me up as well. "Now, it still is early, so would you like to eat some breakfast with me?" She asked, and I nodded. She smiled, and lead me to the cafeteria.
