when i heard the sirens approach i didnt know what to feel, obviously relieved but the noise also made me scared.
Would she make it? Would they charge me for braking in? what would happen to either of us at the hospital or after she gets discharged?Countless thoughts raced through alex's head as the sound of the sirens grew near.
He lifted his head and gazed down at his unconscious girlfriend and placed a small kiss to her cold forehead that not to ling ago was flaming hot.Alex knew he had to move and get her down to the paramedics but he was so worn out, his emotional state had taken a huge effect on his body.
Although he had stopped crying a while ago his eyes where still damp and where beginning to get sore and heavy, but he couldn't let her go to the hospital alone. So alex moved his stiff body and mustered up enough strength to pick her up, and slowly but carefully carry her down to the ambulance.
Bright red and blue lights flashed everywhere accompanied by that irritable high pitched drone blaring.
It caused such a fuss, everyone, even people who weren't out of bed yet where outside or peeking through the curtains.
Suddenly caring about something they hadnt even known about as of a few seconds ago.
They didn't care for the right reasons or understand to the proper extent. You vultures make me sick.
Alex thought to himself as he walked outside to the sight of everyone in the street looking in wonder and shock.
Circling around pecking and steeling the meet from a live horse called drama. They all just peck away at it, ruining the correct nature for fun, to get a sense of importance, to have something to talk about, to seem like their opinion is superior when it doesn't even matter. Yeh they are all vultures squabbling over right and wrong just for some gossip.
A girl they had never even said hi to before would be the focus of their small worlds just cause this is a taboo event that they never see when in actual fact it happens everyday to hundreds but now all of a sudden it becomes important, pathetic. But alex had no room in his mind or any energy to spare to be able to ponder over why they were all vultures.
Paramedics rushed to the side of the lstreet where alex had just stepped out carrying the limp body or a young girl.
The paramedics took her from his arms, the feeling of her not beside him even in her state was unsettling.
He looked on with quivering lips, weak legs as they strapped hern onto a bed and checked her vital signs. He caught the eye of one of the paramedics, a man about thirty maybe tall, clean shaved, blonde hair and green eyes. he looked familiar but alex had no energy to place the face.
The man called over, friendly but rushed with undertones of panicking.
"if you want to stay with her, get in the back. We need to go."
Alex didn't even think twice his legs started to move before his brain understood the words.
He climbed in to the back sitting on a fold down chair next to delilahs head.
Within seconds the ambulance took off at high speed, the sirens signalling for other vehicles to move out the way.He could no longer stand to look at her, instead he slammed his eyes shut and lay his head against the cold mental wall of the ambulance.
The slight swaying of the vehicle sort of soothed alex to an extent, he still felt physically drained and sick to his stomach but at least he could somewhat think straight now.The ambulance was surprisingly dark and cold but unfortunately all alex could smell was that sickly, clinical iron blood smell you get in hospitals.
"ugh, I feel sick..i just...i..."
Alex tried to talk to himself just to fill the eery silence but his words where just caught up in choked whispering sobs that he was fighting back cause he refused to cry any more.
His eyes stung like acid, his emotions are a total mess. He wants to be sad cause he loves her and this sight is unbearable, he wants to be understanding cause he knows exactly what she is going through and that's the worse part cause he cant help then he wants to be angry cause why would she do this I mean they where talking just yesterday,This, this was so selfish of her. Did she even think of anyone who loves her cares for her. This was so selfish.
Alex didn't want to be angry at her, he loves her so much. He had never really imagined his life without her.
But there was that one thought, that dark thought that sat at the back of his mind."what if its better, better she doesn't make it- I know what its like, its so hard- I hate seeing her suffer like this- fuck I don't want to think this, its not true no..."
Alex snapped his eyes open, hands tightly fisted he just stared at the ceiling, getting out of his thoughts.
A few minutes had passed after which the ambulance came to a halt resulting in alex falling off his seat, the paramedics flew open the doors and grabbed the bed puling down the wheels and rushing it into the hospital with alex following fast behind.
A nurse holding open one of the doors for the paramedics put her arm out in front of alex to stop him going any further.
In a fast professional tone she told him
"im sorry, you cant go in there please go sit in the waiting area and a doctor will come for you soon"A lot of time had passed since arriving at the hospital, Alex didn't keep count after the third hour went by. Soon the metal ticking of the clock was the only thing his ears tuned into and it seemed to mock him every second the hand moved an inch as if to drag out his paranoia, string along his emotional turmoil.
The small clicking sound rang out loud incasing his hearing and attracting his cold, stinging eyes every few seconds.
He was waiting for the hands to stop, waiting for his world to explode.Body completely tense as he was filled with anxiety, alex sat on the edge of the cushioned chair his stomach churning head painfully burning, the thumps shaking him to the bone with each tick tock of the taunting clock.
It was laughing in his face. "how much longer. how many more moves till you hear the news. You can be here all night she might go into the light, the minutes and hours are going up as her luck and chances of surviving are going down"
Hunched over, elbows on shaking knees, trembling lips sit in fisted hands as a whimper escapes alexs mouth.
"I fucking hate that clock"
