Carl's P.O.V.

We were racing to get to Hilltop because Maggie desperately needed a doctor, but the fact that we were on foot slowed us down a little bit. Eugene was behind the wheel of the RV because he thought it would be a good idea to make the Saviors think we were inside. I thought it was a good idea, too, and brave of him to volunteer for the task. We had all been pretty lucky up to this point, but our luck was running out.

We ran into a walker that had a tree branch through its gut, but I easily killed it by cutting part of its head off. Slowing down a little bit from a run to a fast-walk, I started talking to my dad. "I heard what you told her, when we were leaving. We can do anything. We'll do anything we need to do. We have, and we will. What happened to Denise... I'm not gonna let anybody die like that again." Out of breath, I breathed heavily as I spoke every word, but I meant it.

"Son -" my dad said.

"What?" I responded, but I think I cut him off.

It was that second that the whistling started.

"Go, GO!" my father yelled, and we started running. It was cold, it was dark, I had no idea where I was or where my feet were taking me. I just knew I had to run. The trees and the whistling surrounded us, and soon I came to a clearing. At first, the bright light blinded me so I raised my left hand to my forehead to shield it, but my eyes soon adjusted, and what I saw in front of me was definitely not what I wanted to see.

Saviors. At least 50 of them. Behind us, in front of us, all around us. I didn't know what to do. I looked to my right to see my dad, in shock. He looked back at me with a worried look in his ice-blue eyes as sweat dripped from his hanging curls. I realized he didn't know what to do or what was going to happen to our group. I felt like I was going to scream and panic, but kept somewhat calm while the whistling sound lingered in my head.

The Savior with the mustache stepped out first. I had recognized him because we'd seen him once already today when he and some of his friends blocked the first road we tried to use to get to Hilltop. "Good. You made it. Welcome to where you're goin'." I just stared at him, full of hate. I couldn't think of anything else to do, not when he was standing right in front of me. "We'll take your weapons," he said so nonchalantly he might as well have been offering to take my coat... Not that I was actually wearing one. Then he added at the end, while pointing a gun in my direction, "Now."

"We can talk about it-" my dad tried to speak. He was shaking so much I thought his knees would give in and he would collapse.

"We're done talking. Time to listen."

The other Saviors gathered around us and yanked every one of our weapons from our waists, arms, and backs. The man with the mustache walked over to me and took my gun from its holster, which he soon realized belonged to them.

"That's yours right?" he asked like he really cared. I just glared at him. He bent his knees so he was looking me in the eyes and said, "Yeah, it's yours." He nodded his head as he answered his own question. I gulped, and he flicked my hat, which kind of pissed me off.

"Okay," he said, straightening himself." Let's get 'er down and y'all on your knees. Lots to cover."

"Hold up," Abraham spoke up as some Saviors walked up to him, I guess to take Maggie and put her down. "We got it."

"Sure, sure," Mustache Man let Abraham and the others carrying Maggie set her down gently. Abraham and my dad helped Maggie walk closer to the front so she could see what was going on. Mustache Man grabbed a bleeding, bruised, and black-eyed Eugene by his left arm and yanked him forward as my dad and Abraham set Maggie on her knees.
