Note: I'm trying something new in this chapter and the next chapter :)
IN ALEXANDRIA
Riley's P.O.V.
"Okay, everyone pair up with someone from another group," Rick's voice boomed.
He didn't say we couldn't already know them.
So I paired up with the girl that slapped Carl, partly because I had to, partly because I wanted to know what happened. Colton paired up with Carl, Morgan with Benjamin, Rosita with Brandy, Carol with King Ezekiel, Rick with Jesus, and Glenn with Carter. Maggie stayed off to the side with Shiva and watched while Abraham stood armed at the gate with Father Gabriel keeping watch. The rest of the Alexandrians had to alternate between Jesus and King Ezekiel because there were the most of them, which means Carol and Jesus would train together for a bit.
A/N: The pairs are in that order, too, so Enid and Riley are next to Colton and Carl and then it's Morgan and Benjamin and so on.
"How come there aren't as many of you here as there are of us?" the girl asked, taking her position a few feet from me. "And what's with the tiger?"
"Nice to meet you, too," I replied sarcastically. "There were more that were going to come, but they decided to stay behind and help protect where we live -"
"And where's that?" she cut me off rudely.
"It's called the Kingdom. Our King Ezekiel is sparring with Carol over there," I said, pointing a view pairs down. "There were others, we just recently lost five to the Saviors in an attack -"
"I guess you're not that strong then, huh?"
"Can you do better?" I asked sassily and glared at her. She didn't respond. "I didn't think so. If you could, we wouldn't be here, helping you." I dropped my glare and shrugged my shoulders, brushing off our mini sass fight. "And to add on to my answer to your earlier question, only so many from two other groups can fit in one RV," I finished.
"True, true," she smiled, letting go of the mini interrogation as well. "So why the tiger?"
"Her name is Shiva, and I don't really know why we have her, but I love her just the same," I smiled back. I hesitated before asking, "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure," she replied, throwing a punch at my face.
I dodged, grabbed her hand, and twisted it behind her back, soon releasing her from my grasp. We switched sides, so now Carl was next to me instead of Colton. "Why did you slap Carl earlier?"
At the mere mention of his name, Carl looked over at me and opened his mouth to say something. Colton took the opportunity and charged, butting his head into Carl's stomach and grabbing the back of his knees. Carl landed on his back on the grass as his hat fell off. He re-adjusted the bandage on his face and picked up the hat before playfully putting his hands up in surrender.
"Don't let your opponent distract you and don't get distracted by your surroundings," Colton advised, earning a nod from Carl.
"He locked me in a closet while he went to help Maggie get to the Hilltop. It was the day Eugene died. I guess he thought I couldn't handle it," the girl explained, glaring at Carl from across the way. She turned back to me before asking, "What's your name anyway? I'm Enid."
"Riley," I introduced, holding out a hand.
Colton took it instead of her and pulled me towards him. He pushed a stray piece of hair behind my ear. I stood up on my toes - yes, I'm that short - and went to whisper something in his ear. My lips brushed against his earlobe before they curled into a smile.
