I finished my office work around 9pm.
So much to do, and I have even less time now, that Addie is back under my thumb.
Walking downstairs, I can hear her talking to someone.
Honestly, she's knows about me. She knows which of my senses are heightened.
This is a pathetic cry for me to catch her.
Maybe she just wants my attention.
Or maybe she's stupid enough that she's actually forgotten.
I focus my hearing, tuning in on every word.
"He came into my class today. Full suit, minus a tie."
"Damn, that's crazy" says the other person on the phone. A males voice, which just makes my blood boil.
"He starts telling my professor how I'm slacking and how he needs to keep me at home forever."
I never said that.
"He sounds fucking crazy. What the hell is his problem?"
"I don't know. He's crazy protective or something.. Maybe he just has issues. Anyway he has all the doors locked, I can't go anywhere. He made me dye my hair back and everything."
"Yup, he's totally fucking crazy. He needs to chill. I really liked the dye job I did on your hair Add, it was cool."
"I know!" She exclaims. "It was wicked. He's just mad that I'm not a perfect specimen of human females anymore."
"Does he know you've got cigs on you?"
"Hell no!"
Hell yes. I know now.
"Good. You better not let him find those or that tree you've got!"
Tree?
She laughs. "Duh, he will never find that out. But I'll keep it safe for you. I can butter him up and probably be out of here by the end of the week."
What the hell is tree?
"Yeah. Once you do that, I'll be waiting to smash."
Oh- oh. I know that slang.
I don't like it. At all.
I walk up behind her, staying quiet.
"Yeah totally."
God- I'm sick. She agreed.
"Haha, yeah you just make sure to get out. I don't think I could be without your cat or my tree."
Vagina and... Tree???
She smiles. "Yeah I'll get out."
No she won't. I'm right behind her now.
"I'll see you hopefully soon. Bye Lovan!"
"Bye babe."
She hangs up and giggles. Then stands up. She turns around to go upstairs and she sees me, screams and falls over.
That was quite a reaction.
I guess I would scream too if the whole house was dark and suddenly a 6'7 vampire appeared behind me.
"Who's phone is that?" I say to her.
"Uhhh..." She says.
Typical.
"Who is Lovan?"
Her eyes get big.
"Are you dating him?"
She starts looking around, hoping for a way out.
"Well?"
"Um, Lovan is a friend from school!"
"Lies."
"He's my..." She casts her gaze downward. She's embarrassed.
"He's your what? Drug dealer?!"
"My boyfriend!" She screams. "And maybe also kinda my drug dealer."
My eyes flash red.
"You KNOW that you are not allowed to have a boyfriend!"
"I don't care! Ever since I was born I've been bound to you! And maybe.. Maybe I don't even want to be!"
My face falls. She what?
"Excuse me?"
She gets fire in her blood now.
"You heard me Felix! I don't even want to be here! I love Lovan and he loves me! You just can't accept that I'm different from you! I finally got freedom, four months ago. And then you have to rip it away from me! Don't you care about what I want?!"
I take a moment to think.
Do I care what she wants?
Her family has been subservient to mine for as long as our history goes back.
Her mother was supposed to produce an heir. She had two children.
Addison, and Asher.
Addison was older, so she was betrothed to me from her birth, despite her being born human.
Her brother, although prettier then her, was also killed in the accident with her parents.
A shame really.
After the accident, Addison moved in with me.
This was our first time meeting.
She was shy, and I was too. I was just trying to impress her.
She only spoke when spoken too, she was very quiet and helped with chores.
She was accepted into a nice university and held fantastic grades. I was so proud.
Then, four months ago. She was in the middle of exams, she was very stressed.
We had grown more comfortable with eachother. She was slacking in school.
Like my father before me, I had to keep everything in my life under control. Her slacking in school was not up to par.
I asked her why she was slacking, and she proclaimed she wasn't slacking, and the semester was just difficult.
I called her bluff and found out she had been drinking, smoking. Normal teenager distractions.
I forbade her from seeing any of those people again. I had said people re-located as to not bother her.
This was.. A bad idea.
She became bitter that I had gotten rid of her 'friends'.
She was angry all the time. Started talking back, being rude.
One evening she was doing homework. I peered over her shoulder and found a math problem done incorrectly. I pointed it out and she exploded.
We called eachother awful names and almost got in a fist fight.
It ended with three holes in the wall and the couch was burnt to a crisp.
I promised from that day on that I wouldn't meddle in her life as much.
She seemed incredibly happy with this decision, and promised to keep her grades up.
That went well until, well, today.
Do I really care what she wants?
She was promised to me.
A promised wife, for me, and not this Vallor character or whatever.
So I guess the answer is..
"No."
