BAEKHYUN

My heart was pounding as I walked to that unprofessional hospital that made a very unsual mistake with my insemination. I was looking straight, not minding anyone who stared at us. I'm with the receptionist, Lee Haneul, who's carrying my baby inside of her. If I've proven that it is really mine, I'm going to get that doctor out of the job.

"M-Mr. Byun, c-could you slow down? I'm kind of tired."

I looked at Haneul, who's panting beside me. She was paler than usual. I panicked —I reached for her waist and secured her small bump.

"Are you okay? I-Is the baby...?"

She smiled and then bursts out laughing. She patted her stomach and put my hand above it. "I'm okay. I think it's okay too. But... is this really yours?"

I closed my eyes and began walking again —slowly moving together with her. "We're going to find out."

The nurse who called me widened her eyes as soon as she saw me and Haneul together. She immediately led us to the doctor's office. We both sat down and faced the doctor.

"Was she the one you've done the procedure?"

I started without any warning. The doctor was silent but nodded her head after. She brought out some medical records and handed it to me.

"I'm terribly sorry, Mr. Byun. I was about to do it with Chaekyung-ssi but then, my nurse told me that Kim Jeongmin insisted her friend, which is Ms. Haneul here, needed to have the first check-up."

I nodded as I slowly took in all the information about what happened. Haneul, who was beside me, was looking at the ground while playing with her fingers.

The doctor continued, "I thought she was Chaekyung-ssi. She was fertile that time that's why I wasted no time and did the procedure. As for Chaekyung, I did the normal checking with her as what I do with regular patients."

Haneul tightened her fists. "So you mean, you've switched our check-ups? What about Chaekyung-ssi? She was waiting for you to do it to her. She was expecting to be pregnant yet... I was the one who got knocked up."

I softened at her words. She was still thinking about others instead of her current situation. She's very responsible, I should've just asked her instead of putting her in this case.

"So, the baby she's carrying... was mine?" I stressed out the word for me to understand that a baby was already formed. I saw the doctor nodded once more. I took a deep breath and continued, "Tell me what she needed through her pregnancy."

After that appointment, Haneul was very quiet. She wasn't saying anything and just listened to what the doctor had to say. I stopped walking and she stopped as well.

"Any problems, Ms. Lee?"

She sighed. "Mr. Byun, I'm sorry that you're suffering because of me. I know you didn't expect this to happen, especially that I'm the one who's carrying the next heir of the company."

I was taken aback. She was not confident enough to carry my child. Well, who would be if you're knocked up without your consent?

I smiled at her and patted her shoulder. "Don't worry, I'm glad that it was you instead of any other woman."

Her eyes brightened up. Then she rubbed her bump causing me to panic. "Are you hurt somewhere?"
