It's funny how you don't think you'll miss something or someone because you're always around them but then you end up missing the something or someone in the end anyways.
This year because of the surprising news that Quinn and her family were moving to Boston AND that Quinn's mother was pregnant shifted our schedule a bit. Quinn and her family had to leave 2 and a half weeks before us to pack up their home. 2 and a half weeks was not a lot of time but they did live in a small condo so it shouldn't take them long if they pack 24/7. It's been a bit over a week since they left and let me tell you it's not the most fun to be stuck on an island with only your parents for company. We decided to leave earlier than planned. We were only going to leave 2 weeks after Quinn and her family but due to.. Extreme boredom, Mom and Dad decided we could leave within the next couple of days.
A week later; August 5th, 2011.
Quinn and her family's Honda pulled up in front of my family's small townhouse in Downtown Boston. Surprisingly, this would be the first time Quinn and her family have seen our home. Yeah, we've been best friends for years and they've never been to our real house.
Mom offered for them to stay with us here for a few days until all of their furniture arrived and they had unpacked a bit. Because our house only has 2 bedrooms, Quinn would be sleeping in MY bed while I would sleep on my bedroom's couch (I offered) and her parents would be sleeping on our living rooms pullout couch. If I were them I'd rather be sleeping on my own mattress in my own home than on a flimsy pullout mattress but oh well at least I get to be with Quinn some more. We spent the next few days bonding and having fun together, enjoying the last month of summer. This would be the first full month I've spent at home during the summer, ever.
After the few days my Mom offered for them to stay had passed, Quinn and her family packed up their belongings and got into their Honda. 'They' (I say 'they' because my Mom, again, offered to help them unpack) invited us over to help unpack so my family followed suite and pilled into our Jeep, following the GPS mounted on the dash to their new home.
We pulled up to a beautiful limestone home on the outer part of Boston. 15 minutes away from downtown where Quinn and I would be attending school, this putting her into the bussing system whereas I could walk due to the fact that my home was 2 minutes away from the school.
After a few hours of unpacking, eating pizza and chatting with the Jacobs family Mom decided it was time to go.
"25 days until you start at the new school." I whisper to Quinn as everyone says goodbye.
"Haha, can't wait." She replies sarcastically.
"Bye Quinnie." I whisper and give her a hug but I'm immediately pushed off by a pissed off looking girl.
"Never call me that again." She says in an angry tone.
"Ok, ok. QUINNIE." I yell and bolt away from her and lock myself in the Jeep. "Sucker." I whisper as she approaches me in the car.
She just flips me off and flips her hair like she's on a runway then walks back inside and out of my view. I laugh to myself lost in my little world watching her and how beautiful she is but I'm knocked out of my world by my Dad walking in front of the window and blocking my view of her house. He looks down at me sternly and gives me a death stare indicating that I've locked them out of the Jeep and that they want to be let in. I roll my eyes and push myself back from the window to grab the keys and press the unlock button for my parents.
"You're welcome." I say. No one says anything. Ok? Where's my thank you?
Once my parents pull up to our townhouse I get out of the car and go straight to my room. Don't want to talk to those rude people. I pull out my laptop, an Alienware that I'd asked for last Christmas and had to beg for because they cost the same as a Mac and if you weren't aware, Macs cost a hell of a lot of money. I open Skype on my laptop and press the call button for Quinn's name. I hear it ring a few times and then a woosh indicating she was connecting.
"Hey." I say.
"Hey." She says. No one says anything after this, we just stare at each other through the cameras until I finally break the silence.
"I can't believe you're 15 minutes away." I laugh. The conversation kicks off from here and we spend hours talking, at some point I brought my laptop into bed and she did the same and we fell asleep together with the call still going. Great way to wake up. Seeing your best friend sleeping through your laptop.
"QUINN!" I whisper/yell so I don't wake up my parents. Nothing, she's still sleeping. I try again. "QUINN." I see her turn over and then she groans.
"What??!"
"Get dressed. We're going to Starbucks."
"First time I've ever heard you say that. Ok though, I'm up." I meet Quinn at Starbucks and I spend the day with her taking her around town and showing her all of the cool places to hangout.
"Maybe Boston won't be so bad." She says, smiling at me.
