[Todd's P.O.V.]

4 Years Earlier; August 3rd, 2012.

Mom and me went up to the beach house today, a bit later than usual but oh well. A lot has been happening. It's been just over a month since she and Dad got divorced. She won full custody of me in court and thank god. I don't know what I would have done if I could only live with my Dad since they had each wanted full custody of me.

On top of the divorce Quinn started dating Nolan and her family took him up to Nantucket for the WHOLE summer with them, so I'm very thankful we only went up in August. Honestly I don't even like Nantucket anymore. I stay up in my room all day hiding from Quinn and Nolan. Actually scratch that, not hiding, avoiding. They literally think they own the island. They walk all over my property. They use MY pool. Wherever I look there they are, making out, which in my opinion is really inappropriate to do in front of your parents. Like?? I'm getting tired of Quinn's shit. She literally stopped talking to me now that she and Nolan are dating. She thinks she's so popular too.

"TODD!" My Mom calls me from downstairs. "We're going to the beach! Do you want to come?"

"Who's we?" I ask.

"Everyone! Quinn, Nolan, Quinn's parents. Come on, you need to get outside, you've spent the whole summer in your room playing your video games."

"Um I'll pass. How about I go into town instead?"

"Fine. Be back for dinner, we're having a bonfire with some of the other neighbours from down the road."

"K." I say, having no intension of being back by then. I grab a 20 dollar bill off my dresser and stuff it into my pocket to buy myself some food in town then slowly make my way down the stairs and sneak into the shed through the door on the side of the house. Unfortunately Quinn and Nolan are leaning against MY house and making out. I pretend to not see them and bolt into the shed to grab my bike, praying they didn't see me but guess who walks in just as I'm about to peddle out of the shed.

Yup, Quinn.

"Um.." She says.

"Can I help you?" I say in a voice that was ruder than I intended.

"Sorry." She says, backing up. I don't say anything to her. I kick up my bike's stand and then peddle as fast as I can across the street onto a dirt road which we have been using as a shortcut to the town for as long as I can remember. I turn around to see her standing in the corner of the shed looking at me bike away. Oh Quinn. I wish things were better. I sigh and peddle harder and reach the town in a matter of minutes.

Once I reach the brick pathways of downtown Nantucket I hop off my bike and walk it along the bumpy path. I walk for a few blocks until I reach my favourite restaurant. Joe's. I lean my bike against the wall outside the door and go in. The bell chimes.

"Todd!" Joe calls from behind the counter.

"Hey Joe."

"Where have you been man? Haven't seen you all summer."

"Mom and I just came up. We had to deal with some personal stuff before we came." I reply.

"Ah, ok. So what'll it be?" He asks. "The usual?"

"Don't you know it." I say, and walk to an empty table. I play with my thumbs as I wait for Joe to bring my favourite, shrimp salad. The best thing I've ever tasted in my life.

After a couple of minutes Joe comes from around the counter with the meal. I dig in and I feel myself relax as I devour the meal.

"Woah. Slow down." I hear an unfamiliar voice say.

I look up into a pair of beautiful sea green eyes and give myself a moment to take in the girl standing over me.

"Um." I gulp down a forkful I'd just pilled into my mouth.

"Whatcha eating?" The girl asks and pulls the chair out to sit.

"Shrimp salad."

"That sounds very unappetizing. Can I try?" She asks, and takes my fork out of my hand without me saying yes. Alrighty then.. She takes a huge forkful of the salad and stuffs it into her mouth, chews as if she were analyzing and trying to figure out some murder case as if she were a detective. I just stare at her with my blank stare that I'd been using a lot recently.

"Not bad, not bad. I mean it's not my favourite but it's not disgusting so that's a plus." She laughs. I laugh too.

"So.. Who are you?" I ask and push my hair back.

"Oh! Sorry, forgot to introduce myself. I'm Sierra."

"Ok, it's ok. I'm Todd." I say and she bursts into laughter. "What..?" I ask.

"Oh.. Nothing. Just you really don't suit your name. Are you sure that's your name?" What kind of question is that?

"Of course I know my name." Jeez, this girl is ridiculous. "Now if you don't mind, I'm kind of going through something so I want to eat in peace." I say and grab my fork back from her to wipe her saliva off.

"Care to share?" She asks. "Hehe, that rhymed."

"Not really." I grunt.

"Hm, ok. Sourpuss." She laughs and walks to the counter. I push Sierra out of my mind and continue eating my delicious salad but a minute later I hear a slam on the table and look up to see again that Sierra is sitting across from me with a paper in her hand.

"Do you want it?" She asks and waves a little paper in front of my face. I snatch it from her and get up to ask Joe to give me a to-go box.

"Rude much? Jeez." She hmpfs and grabs the paper back.

"Ok.. Didn't even want your number, bitch." I reply and storm out with my salad. That was a bit mean, Todd. I tell myself. I should go say sorry but oh well.

"Fuck you." Sierra says and walks out of the restaurant, flipping me off. Whatever. I grab my bike from the wall and bike away not saying another word to that girl.
