Charlottes P.O.V
The wild horse stood at the back of his stall ears pinned to the back of his head. His black eyes showed distrust and hate.
"You look like you need a brush"she said as she looked at his matted coat. The horse looked like at any second he would lunge at her and take a chunk out of her. His rib cage was clearly shown underneath his thick coat. Charlotte knew it was Summer but the horse had needed his Winter coat in the wild.
"I will be back" she said as she turned on her heel just as she heard footsteps coming down the barn aisle. She turned around to see her father and his head trainer Clark Beardon taking a look at the wild horse.
She slipped into the stall next to the wild horse where a bay mare was stabled. She heard the footsteps stop outside the wild horse stall.
"He doesn't seem to have put on any weight in the 2 weeks we have had him here"She heard Clark say
"Hmm Give him time"Her father said
"I not sure if that colt was a good investment Sir"
"We will see in a couple of weeks anyway"
Quickly she acted like she was brushing the bay mare as the men walked by and to her relief they didn't notice her.
She slipped back out of the stall and went to look at the wild horse again. As soon as he saw her his ears went flat back. She reached into her pocket and grabbed out a Peppermint. She held out the peppermint a safe distance away from the horse. The horses ears stayed back and he bared his teeth. She took her hand back and placed the peppermint in the feed bucket in front of the horses head.
"I must find a name for you although right now you should be named 'crazy' "
She took one last look at the wild horse and strode off out of the barn. That night at dinner Charlottes thought were back to the wild horse.
She picked at her dinner and saw her parents looking at her with worried glances.
"Are you okay honey"Her mother finally managed to say
"Yeah"She said but looking up her parents faces she could tell that they didn't believe her.
"Well I was thinking about that crazy Colt you brought" she said "I think he just has to learn to trust people again and I was wondering if you would let me try to earn that "she winced at the last word
"Honey he is wild let Clark or one of our grooms handle him.Maybe you should try training one of the weanlings or something less wild"Her father said
"But dad he needs someone he can trust someone like me"she said desperately
"We're sorry"Her parents said in unison
"May I be excused" she said and without waiting for an answer she left the table and ran to the barn. Immediately she went to the wild horses stall.
"I know I can get you to trust again I know I can"She told him
She could just see him in the back of his stall. His dark eyes and body were as black as the night sky. She looked in his feed bin and saw that the peppermint was gone.
"You like Peppermints do you?"
She reached into her pocket and brought out a second peppermint and held it out to the Colt
For a moment she thought she saw his ears flick forward for a moment. He walked forward and snatched the peppermint out of her hand and went back to the far corner of the stall.
"You like Peppermints don't you Hunter"
"Hunter what do you think of that name"
She saw the horses ear flick forward for a moment
"Well Hunter it is then" She said to the ColtWell that is the the end of this chapter and I actually enjoyed writing it myself . Comment your opinion and please remember to vote and share 😃
