"Are they awake yet?" He questioned.
"No, Sans." She mumbled quietly.
A pause.
"...When will they be awake?" He asked.
Another pause.
"I'm not sure, probably within a few hours. From what you've told me, Frisk must have taken some serious damage in order for their soul to begin to shatter. It's unbelievable. I can't understand who could do this to my precious child." Toriel whispered. Her motherly voice was wobbly due to her attempting not to cry. "Maybe I'm just not a good enough mother... I've lost two of them already Sans... I don't want to lose Frisk too. They're so precious to me, they're my shining light of happiness when it gets dark. I can't see my life without them..." Tears began to slide down her cheek, and Sans rubbed her back soothingly.
"Me neither, Tori. You don't find a kid like that everyday. Frisk is special, and strong. I know that their determination will help them see this through. Just you wait and see, Tori. They'll be fine." Sans said reassuringly, and he meant every word.
"Thank you Sans..." Toriel sniffled "I'm going to go to check on them and heal their soul a bit more, and then I may make some butterscotch and cinnamon pie for when they wake up. I'll make you and Papyrus one too, as a thank you for finding them. It relieves me so much just to know that they're here."
"I'm glad you're feeling a bit better. But shouldn't you be resting? You've used so much magic on the kid today. You have bags under your eyes, Tori. Anyways, it's getting late." Sans said worryingly.
"I'll be fine Sans. I'm not delicate, I'm able to look after myself." The goat woman replied, a warm smile on her face.
"Okay Tori. And...er...are you sure that it's alright for Papyrus to sleep over?" Sans chuckled, hearing Papyrus' loud snores from the guest room. Toriel simply smiled again, and nodded her head.
"I'd like it if you could stay too, Sans. It'd provide some comfort for me, having two powerful skeletons around, since Asgore isn't here at the moment. He's gone to the police station to inform them that Frisk has been found, and he has to discuss with them about building a more secure perimeter around the village, so this doesn't happen to anyone else's child. I'd hate it if a situation like this happened again." She heard Frisk stirring in the other room. She asked Sans to grab a cinnamon roll and some sea tea for the child, and quickly rushed down the hallway to check on them.Sans strolled into Toriel's kitchen. It looked so homely. Then again, everything in Toriel's home looked homely. It was comforting, to say the least. He opened the pastry tin and grabbed two cinnamon rolls, and poured the already boiled kettle of water into Frisk's favourite mug. It had a picture printed of Frisk with all of their family.
Sans smiled. He remembered when that picture was taken. They had just broken through the barrier, and were celebrating with a group outing. They decided to have a picnic, and everyone brought something that they've cooked for the day out. Obviously, Pap brought a few plates of spaghetti, declaring that his dish would leave everyone wanting more. Toriel brought a cinnamon and butterscotch pie, which was only cooked on special occasions such as these. Frisk had baked some brownies, which were devoured within the first ten minutes of the picnic, much to the dismay and confusion of Papyrus, who assumed his dish would be the first to be completely eaten. Sans brought some prank monster candy, which caused Undyne to almost choke, since they were in a variety of displeasing tastes - earwax, grass, and vomit were a few of the treats that Sans used to attempt to trick Papyrus. He mixed them with his plate of spaghetti, and expected an angry result, but Papyrus didn't seem to notice, which only caused Sans to laugh harder than he originally thought he would.
Asgore had brought some golden flower tea and a variety of sandwiches, which he enjoyed eating and drinking for himself. Undyne had brought some sushi rolls, and got rowdy with Sans when he jokingly stated that she was a cannibal for eating her own kind. Alphys had brought a large chocolate cake, which was also extremely popular ( Frisk managed to eat half of it all to themselves ), and caused Papyrus' confusion levels to go up even further.
Afterwards, the group decided to rest on a comfy bed of golden flowers, and being full from the picnic, they all fell asleep. Mettaton obviously took this opportunity to snap a photo of them to show them all later.
Sans hoped he could do that again soon with them all. It was times like those that made him feel at peace.
The sea tea was done, and he placed the cinnamon rolls on a small plate. He walked quickly down the hallway towards Frisk's bedroom, anxious to see them awake. He walked into their room cautiously, and saw Toriel sitting on a chair, finishing a song that she was singing softly to them, a song that made Sans feel at ease instantly. Frisk was sitting up with a relaxed smile on their face, and smiled even wider when they saw Sans.
"Hey Sans!" They signed happily. Sans chuckled.
"Hey bud. I've brought some stuff to make ya feel better." He placed the plate of cinnamon rolls on Frisk's lap, and the sea tea on their side table. "Bone appetite" he joked, and all three of them laughed heartily.
Frisk quickly finished their little meal, and grew sleepy again. Toriel started singing her song to them again, and each word she sang was laced with love. Frisk fell asleep halfway through her singing, and Toriel smiled. She arose from her seat and realised that Sans had fallen asleep too beside Frisk's bed. She smiled, and grabbed a spare blanket from Frisk's bed, and placed it over Sans. She switched off Frisk's nightlight, tip-toed out of the room, and headed to bed.Everyone was asleep, dreaming happily of their group picnic, and the house was finally at peace.
