He dials the number as I walk onto the back porch and stare at the scenery. I could definitely paint a portrait of this.
A light breeze moves strands of my hair across my face and I lean against the railing. I feel two arms wrap around my waist from behind me and pull me away from the railing.I turn and see Peter with a small smile on his face. I wrap my arms around his neck and return his smile.
He gently starts to sway us back and forth and starts to hum an unfamiliar tune. We slowly dance in little circles to his voice and stare into each other's eyes. I giggle as he dips me and brings me back up. We seem to dance for hours before Jackson walks out.
"May I cut in?" he asks. I let go of Peter and turn toward Jackson. To my surprise, Jackson turns to Peter and begins to dance with him. I laugh at my silly boys.
By now, the entire family and some of the wolf pack are on the porch, watching the two strange men.
"And one two three, one two three." Jackson counts as he instructs Peter. "And dip." he says. Unfortunately, both of the boys try to dip each other at the same time, causing them to fall to the ground.
"Alright boys. That's enough silliness." I say, helping them up.
"Wow. Dr. Fangs, I've never seen you so...carefree." Jacob says. Peter shrugs. I hear a car pull into the driveway. The wolves start sniffing and begin to smile.
"Mmhhhm. Pizza." Seth says, grinning widely. Peter walks to the front to pay for the pizza and appears a couple minutes later with 4 boxes in his hands. He tosses the boxes to Jacob who catches them gracefully.
We all gather around the bonfire and begin to talk amongst ourselves. I look for Peter as Jackson begins a conversation with me.
Peter's POV
I find Liz standing by Jackson. I feel my body fill with jealousy as Liz laughs at something he says and places a hand on his chest.
I walk over to them and join the conversation. But just as I get there, they stop talking.
I clear my throat.
"So, how's Gavin?" I ask her and immediately regret it. Whenever we talk about our spouses, it just gets awkward.
"He's good. How's Jenny?"
"Good. Good." She smiles and nods. Jackson looks between us and starts to chuckle.
"Great conversation. I'm gonna go now." he says as he walks toward Nikki.
"Do you want to go for a walk?" I ask. She smiles with relief and nods. We walk into the woods and continue our path aimlessly.
Our swinging hands occasionally brush each other and finally, I grab her hand.
"Peter?" she asks.
"Hm?"
"Do you think we will be stuck here forever?" she asks innocently. I look down at her and see her staring at the ground.
"I'm not sure. I would like to say no. I miss my children."
"You don't miss your wife?" she asks, looking up at me. I shake my head.
"I was actually planning on filing for divorce." I admit. She squeezes my hand and I smile slightly.
"What happened between you two? When did it go wrong?"
"I'm not sure. Maybe it was never right." she nods and sighs.
"We should head back now." she says quietly. I nod and we walk back, taking our time.
