Confrontation

Aspen was stung by her mothers harsh words, she didn't want her to go, and she didn't want to stay here. Her pack was run, now, by only one alpha. She was strong and showed leadership but Aspen didn't have faith in the survival of her pack. "Zencore is gone, I am our only leader" Rissa said strongly, she gazed around the area at all the gathered wolves. "I will need everyone's help to keep our pack alive!" She ordered. She looked at Aspen and watched her yip playfully, "Including pups" and with that she started sorting out who was doing what. All the pups started gathering in a small corner of their den site and Aspen pranced over to join them. She joined in the chatter and play for a while, but it was short lived. Eyes were taken off the meanest of the pups and they started to lumber over to the others.

Everything froze and Aspen remained frozen upside down on the grass. Borla and Cathna peered down at her and growled. "This is our play spot you little ball of nothing" she growled and all the others stood up and started to back away. "Last time we were playing over there and you said that was your play spot" Aspen motioned over to the other end of their den site. "So is this!" Cathna sneered and circled her temptingly,
"What are you trying to do?" Aspen pumped out her chest and stared at Borla intently. She just snarled, obviously not knowing what to say. "Leave. Now!" Aspen commanded, She shoved her ears forward and leant forward, almost on top of Borla and Cathna, who had stopped when she started to speak. She looked like a shimmering statue of silver, remembering the day Zencore left and the way Rissa did it.

"I will not become a coward like you!" Cathna shouted, she stood beside Borla trying to protect her,
"You are the only coward here!" Aspen stood gaining confidence from their reactions, she nipped at Cathna's ear and Borlla gasped. They both stood tall and growled and barked, forcing Aspen back to the group of pups. "We will not back down!" Cathna howled at the top of her lungs. This drew attention from the adults and they jumped up to see what was going on, though they did not help. It was a test. Aspen's farther looked at her with sympathy, but then seemed to mouth something. "Show them who's the beta's pup" he said. Aspen nodded, "Nor will I" she growled and started circling the two pups, trying to remember all the powerful things Rissa had done.

Aspen snarls, "leave us be, or feel the wraith of all these wolves" Borla and Cathna glanced past Aspen at all the pups and shivered. They had gotten the idea, that they were supposed to stand up for themselves. They were mimicking Aspen and her strong, intimidating form. Borlla whimpered and Cathna's legs shook slightly. "Did I just say leave, or stand there trembling?" She growled. Wait, what am I doing? Why am I being like them, I don't want to be a bully. I can't, I...won't. "Please leave" Aspen said softly, drooping her head, "I need time" Borla and Cathna heard but didn't flinch at her kind words, they had seen what she displayed and continue backing away.

Aspens farther smiled a wolfish smile and backed into the crowd of wolves and commentators. All the pups cheered and felt awe in her triumph, but Aspen didn't feel it. I never wanted to be mean, I just wanted fair. Why Aspen why?! She raced through the crowd of wolves weaving between their legs in the direction of Borla and Cathna.

Through a strong shell always lies a soft heart. Aspen proved this.
