Chapter 3- The Paco Returns

Shit.
I guess I'm gonna have to tell him, he was eventually gonna find out, but I was secretly hoping he'd realize going stag to the dance was lame and have another food "Experiment Night", like he always does when he's got nothing to do. Poor Perce.
So I sat there, feeling sorry for myself and Percy, but mostly myself, since I was still in the process of convincing myself he wouldn't mind me and Felicity going to homecoming. Together. I remembered how he looked at her and guiltily acknowledged that he probably would mind. Just hopefully not too much, I mean, I remembered Felicity somewhat from what Percy told me before he moved away three years ago but he was vague how strong his feelings were, though it was 5th grade when it started. This is sticky. I'll talk to Eve. I would talk to Blue but he might tell Percy or tell me to do it to piss off Matt, however that would work?

After I was sure Percy wasn't going to ask Felicity out and make a fool of himself, I headed to my 7th period private class with Eve to test my powers. Oh by the way, turns out I didn't even need to convince Percy out of it, Teagan came over and broke the news that she already had a date and Percy's face was crestfallen but he nodded like it was expected. Teagan seemed really nervous to ask out his date, he said he might just wait till Prom but we encouraged him to go ahead. I liked Teagan, reminded me of a younger Percy and me, even though he was older.
Anyway, I got to Eve's class and was relieved to see Blue or Matt hadn't showed up for some random reason, but then I got in and I was disappointed to see we weren't alone. Two girls in lab-coats were in the room with Eve, looking at papers with their eyebrows scrunched in concentration. One was Willow, and the other was a dark auburn blonde girl wearing a Panic!At The Disco shirt and Wonder Woman sneakers. Eve turned around as I came in a gave me a warm smile, I returned it and nodded toward the unknown girl. "Oh Caleb, this is J, she and Willow are here to help conduct tests for your powers." Eve replies. I nod and shake the girl's hand. I think my hand shook a little, the last time I tested for my powers it wasn't the most fun. "Are we doing it official this time? No throwing things and violence?" Eve looked to J and the girl thought a minute then nodded. How reassuring. Willow gave me an encouraging thumbs-up. "Hold out your hand," J says, I comply and a second later I snap my hand back, "OW!" I yell, feeling only slightly betrayed. She drew blood, but you know, for science I guess. "Don't be a baby," she said, and left the room with the sample. Eve smiled, trying to hold back a laugh, and turned to Willow. "What's first Red?" She asked, and Willow busted out a laugh, then quickly turned shy again. "Well, this serum  I have is supposed to bring out latent kinetic abilities, but he needs to sign a consent form." I back the hell up, waving my arms in front of me, "Woah, woah, if you gonna inject me with some super detector drug at least tell me why I need a consent form." Willow shrugged, "In case you die." I will admit I let out a miniature scream. A manly one, you know.

Eve thwacked her in the boob (accidentally, unless they're closer than I thought), and tried to smile, "She's kidding, of course, we just need a consent form so we have a official document saying you know we're giving this to you and why." J came back and snapped on some gloves and pulled out a huge ass needle with blue-green liquid inside it. Eve bit her lip, from anxiety or trying not laugh who knows. "It's um... Not going to hurt a bit?" she said. Yep. That's it, she's definitely trying not to laugh. It would be cute if that needle wasn't so freaking huge. J came over to me, grabbing my wrist and turning it over, and did that little thing where she squirted a little out the end menacingly. She cleaned the area and put the needle to my skin, closer and closer, I felt the point... "Stop." I said. She pulled the needle away from my arm and let go. "What's up?" Eve asked, her electric blue eyes crinkled in concern. She pushed a strand of bright red hair behind her ear and came forward. "I want you to do it." I told her. She looked surprised for half a second then wiper her face clear of all expression. "Ok," she said and took the needle from the other girl. She looked up to me, she's a few inches shorter than me, and stared me in the eyes, and I noticed her lashes had blonde highlights. "Ready?" she asked, I nodded and she slid her hand around my wrist and turns it over. Her hands are really soft. She looked me steady in the eyes as I sensed the needle getting closer. Her eyes were a little white-grey in some places, like little snowflakes in her eyes, with tiny flecks of gold like nearly invisible rays of sunlight. Very unlike Felicity's unusual violet magenta irises. I stared and stared and stared, and she smiled just as I felt the cold sharp sting of the needle and winced, breaking eye contact. "See," Eve said, "that wasn't so bad, was it?" I chuckled in mock agreement and allowed Willow to apply a band-aid, and not till later did I notice it was Hello Kitty.
A minute later I just stood there, waiting to feel some kind of affect from the super drug. "Anything?" Eve asked, I shook my head and the lab coat girls wrote scratchily on their clipboards. "How about you try and move something or something?" J suggested. "That's very helpful thank you J," I say, I don't think anyone has to guess I was sarcastic. She nodded humbly and I turned to the pencil sharpener on the table. I put my hand up and concentrated with all my mind to move it. Nothing, guess the power of my mind isn't enough. They ended up putting nearly all the periodic elements that weren't volatile or whatever in front of me to try and move with zero luck. Even some plants and fire were brought in front of me. I think it's safe to say I'm probably not kinetic. "Well, that was for nothing." This time Eve hit me in the boob. "It was not for nothing, know we know that you're most likely not kinetic. It's a start." she says. I snort, "Only 700 more tests to go." J nodded in agreement which really cheered me up. "Don't look so glum," Eve sighed, giving me a half hug, "I think we'll know by the dance." The dance. Right. "Reminds me," I say, "can we talk alone a sec?" I look to the other two girls. Eve nods as they get the clue and skedaddle. "So um, you know how Percy has a bit of a crush on Felicity?" She nods, "Yeah, but it's much more than 'bit of a crush'. What's your point?" Ooh no.
"Well, um. Two guesses as to who is my date for the dance?" She blanches. "No way" she mouths silently.
"You didn't. Poor Percy. You bastard."
"Hey! I'm the victim, kinda. It's a crush, Eve, but he'll feel betrayed that she likes me instead of him."
