Chapter 2: Shallow Speed's True Power

The next day, Shallow Speed challenged Rainbow Dash to a race to test out his wings. So the two decided to race, all the way to Cloudsdale and back. Shallow and Rainbow took off into the sky. The two were neck and neck, speeding through Equestria. They went so fast, that they were about break the sound barrier. They made it to Cloudsdale, and dashed back to Ponyville. The whole town saw them, and cheered them on. Then Rainbow Dash did a Sonic Rainboom, and left Shallow in the dust, but just when she thought she had won, Shallow had gone twice her speed, and all the clouds in the sky, were pushed away by the force of his speed boost. Shallow won the race, and Rainbow Dash praised him for being so fast. She was very impressed, and asked him how he did it. He told her that he's been training his whole life, and only stopped, right after he came out of the portal. She asked if he could train her, and he agreed. Then Shallow went to Fluttershy's cottage, and knocked on the door. He asked her if she could help him find a dragon. She was scared, and curled up into a ball. He told her that if anything happens, that he would protect her. Fluttershy hesitated, and then agreed to do it. They went into the Everfree forest, and Shallow cast a shield spell, so that they would be safe. Fluttershy got very close to Shallow, and the two watched out for danger. They had traveled for a while, and found a cave. They walked inside, and found a dragon, but it was about the size of a pony. It had wings, and a long tail. Fluttershy said hello to the dragon, and the dragon responded by saying hey. The dragon seemed friendly, and asked them why they were there. Shallow said that he was looking for a dragon named Draco. Shallow lowered his shield, and the dragon, couldn't believe his eyes. The dragon asked him if he was Shallow, and he said yes. Shallow said "It's been a long time, Draco" and walked towards the dragon, giving him a hug. "I'm sorry that I left you, but I couldn't bare losing my sister. So I left to be alone in the time rift. I only hope that you can forgive me." Draco shed tears of joy, and responded by saying "I'm just glad to see you again." Shallow asked Fluttershy to come over and join them, and she gave them both a hug. Shallow asked Draco if he would like to come with him to Ponyville, so that they would always be together. Draco agreed, and they all went to Ponyville. When they got back to town, we went back to Fluttershy's cottage, and Shallow asked Fluttershy if Draco could stay with her for a while. Fluttershy said that it was ok, and Shallow left to sweet apple acres. He found Applejack, and asked if he could help her buck apples. She said that only the apple family could buck apples. He begged her until she finally said yes, and they both bucked apples for about an hour. She said that he was really good at it, and asked if he had done it before. He said that it was his first time, and Applejack was impressed. He said goodbye to her, and went to Pinkiepie's house. When he got there, he knocked on the door, and it burst open, knocking Shallow back. When he looked up, he noticed that Pinkiepie had fired her confetti cannon at him. He asked her if she needed help with anything, and she said that she was getting ready to throw a party for him. Shallow had known that, and told her to cancel it. Pinkiepie was confused, and asked why. He told her that he would be leaving Ponyville for a while, so there was no need to throw a party. Shallow told Pinkiepie, "Hey, how about this then. As soon as I get back, I want you to throw me a huge party, ok?" Pinkiepie got excited, and agreed. Then Shallow went to Rarity's boutique, and asked her to make him an orange and blue coat by tomorrow. She was very happy to do it, and agreed. He left her boutique, and went back to the castle. He found Starlight Glimmer, Twilight Sparkle, and Spike, looking around for a book. Shallow asked if they needed help, and Twilight told him that they were looking for a book on history that tells his story. "Well unfortunately Twilight, no book like that exists." She was disappointed, and stopped searching. "Hey, if you really want to know, I could just tell you you myself." She got excited, and asked if he could tell her. "Sure thing, but first..." He looked at Starlight Glimmer with an angry face. She asked what she did wrong. "What didn't you do wrong? You messed with time, and every rift that closed, another one appeared. I had to use almost all of my magic, just to keep your mistake in check. Do you know how many times that you ruined the future?" Twilight asked him to stop, but he refused. "Well Starlight, what do you have to say for yourself?!" "I'm sorry, ok, I didn't mean to, but I've changed, can't you see that?!" Shallow walked up to Starlight, and smiled. "I know that didn't mean to, so I forgive you, and I hope that we can be friends." Twilight was surprised, but then accepted it, and let them be. Starlight looked at Shallow strangely, wondering why he changed his attitude so quickly. Shallow hugged Starlight, and walked over to Twilight. "Twilight, we need to talk." "About what?" "Follow me." Shallow lead Twilight into the hallway, and they both went to the map room. "Twilight, I just wanted to know, if maybe, you'd like to go out sometime?" "What?! Where did that come from all of a sudden?" "Please Twilight, will you go out with me?" "I'm not so sure about this." "Come on, what have you got to lose?" "Well, alright, sure." "Great, then how about tomorrow?" "That's fine with me." "Good, then I'll come and get you then." Then Shallow walked off, and went to spike. "Hey Spike, come here for a second." "What is it?" "How would you like to have wings for a day?" "Wow, really? That would be great." "Ok, now hold still." Shallow concentrated his magic, and cast a spell on Spike. Spike grew little wings, and took off. "Woohoo, this is awesome!" "I'm glad that you like it." "Thanks Shallow!" "No problem." Shallow had gone around town, helping everypony with whatever they had problems with. In the meantime, Twilight meet up with her friends by the pond, and told them about how Shallow asked her out on a date. They all were shocked, and told Twilight how he had been helping them all of them. They all thought that he was a good person, but wondered why he went to see all of them in one day. They went into town, and saw Shallow, helping other ponies, and secretly followed him around. Shallow had helped everypony in Ponyville, and went to rest on a cloud. All of them confronted him, and asked him why he was trying to help everyone in one day. "It's what I used to do, before I left of course." Shallow flew down from his cloud, and landed in front of them. "However, I meant to ask you earlier, but, why were you guys following me?" Twilight came forth, and spoke. "We just wanted to know what you were up to." "Oh, well didn't you say so? You see, since I was young, I've always liked helping people out, and protecting them if need be, that's why I practiced energy magic, so that I can do almost anything." "Oh, I had no idea." "Yeah, so now, if you'll excuse me." Shallow looked at the sky, and lost himself in a daydream. Everyone left him alone, except for Spike, who flew up to him. "Hey there." "Oh, it's you. I see that your enjoying your wings." "Yeah, but that's not why I'm here." "Oh. Then why are you here?" "I can tell that something's on your mind." "Yeah, your right, there is." "So do you wanna talk about it?" "No, not just yet, but don't worry, you'll know very soon." Shallow hadn't realized it, but a tear, had ran down his face. Spike saw this, but didn't say anything, and went to where Twilight was.
