I remembered a time when life was fun. Everything was bright and cheery and life was easy. I only depended on my parents and they gave me everything.
That was so long ago. Now I'm stuck, paralyzed, in a world where humans aren't the only things that prowl in the shadows.
Disbelief was written across my face. "No."
He smiled and life was momentarily paused. "Yes."
I looked at the others. He must be their leader, come to rescue us.
The girls looked from their captors to me. "What do we now, Nicky?" Skylar asked in the arms of a guy no older than me.
I looked around and finally sighed. "I don't know. Let's just go in peace. Its not like we have a choice. Anywhere is better than here."
The big bad wolf growled at that. "Men, come." They filed out with all the females. Even the ones who'd rather stay.
I sigh with contempt. Am I right? Is anywhere truly better than here?
"Female, look at me." His voice commanded respect.
I turned and looked.
"I would never let harm come to you or the other females. Trust me." His eyes swore protection and I took it gleefully.
"Okay." I took his outstretched hand and he led me out of my prison into the woods.
