Chapter 6.5
I was woken up by the intercom blaring.
"All agents report to the gymnasium immediately." It repeated the order over and over in the robotic, monotone voice.
"Andrew." I mumbled, turning my face towards his bed.
"Mm." He mumbled.
"Andrew." I said louder.
"Mm!" He mumbled again.
"Andrew!" I said, this time, raising my voice.
No answer. I groaned and sat up in bed, picking up my pillow and threw it at him. He flinched from the hit and turned towards me.
"What the hell, man?" he asked.
" How can you sleep with the intercom rattling off like this?" I said, raising my voice so I was heard. He shrugged and stopped, listening to the order.
"What's going on?" He asked.
I shrugged and got out of bed, grabbing jeans a blue vneck. Andrew walked to the bathroom and combed his hair, then we switched spots. We had our morning routine down to a T. We'd figured out long ago that arguing and trying to do things at the same time resulted in us being cranky and angry at one another.
We were ready in just a few minutes and left out room, not speaking because the intercom was so loud. We tumbled into the auditorium and a man I didn't recognize stood at the podium.
"Where's General Aiken?" I wondered aloud. No one had an answered. When the auditorium was full and all the agents were there, the man cleared his throat and began to speak.
"My name is General Stewart. As you may know, General Aiken will no longer be in command here at this Agensie. "
The agents erupted. Everyone was in panic. Where was General Aiken? No, they didn't know and why weren't they told?
Instead of asking questions, I studied the man. General Stewart was not a friendly- looking man. He was in his mid-twenties, tall, with light skin and red hair, and wore a five o' clock shadow. His eyebrows were furrowed and he looked at all the agents as if he were disappointed.
"The reason General Aiken is no longer in command," he began. The agents quieted immediately. "Is because he was not keeping these headquarters in control."
We all looked at each other, confused.
"From now on, you'll work harder, listen better, and become the best agents in the West. The consequences will be harsher and training will be more rigorous. Your new schedules will come out today. "
Silence filled the room.
" Please continue on in your normal day. The new schedule will come into effect tomorrow. Leave the auditorium in an orderly fashion or you will find that the consequences are harsher than before. "
Andrew and I glanced at each other and began walking out of the auditorium. I glanced at Andrew in confusion. I stopped and looked at him, and making eye contact with him in the process. I turned around and kept walking, but his voice rang throughout the auditorium.
" You!" He said. I froze and looked at him. He scowled down at me.
" My office. Now." Everyone scuttled out of the auditorium except me. I shook Andrews hand before parting ways, heading to his office. I got there before him, and I waited outside the closed door until he arrived. He scowled at me, looking at me straight in the eyes. He opened the door and growled, " In."
I walked in obediently. "Name?" He asked.
"Agent Boneck, sir. ID number!"
He sat at his computer and typed something in.
"Jason Boneck. The old general spent a lot of money on you."
"Did he, sir?"
He nodded. "Yes. Do you know why?"
I shook my head. "No. I have no idea, sir."
"Possibly... because you're a Special?" He asked, his eyes piercing into me.
My heart stopped. I tried desperately not to look panicked. I'm not a Special. I told myself. I'm not!
I burst out fake laughing.
"A Special? Are you kidding? I'm as far from a Special as you can get!"
He smiled sinisterly and chuckled.
"Your test rates are very good." he commented.
"General Aiken gave me special training. He said i had potential, just not the talent. I had to work on it. My body was the right build, but I wasn't too good at first. He really helped me be a better agent."
"I'm sure. I will keep my eye on you. Watch your back."
I nodded and turned to the door.
"And tell your brother and sister to watch their backs, too." I laughed to myself.
"I don't have a sister." He stopped rustling papers.
"Oh. I thought she was your sister."
"Who?" I asked, my heart beating faster.
"No one. " he laughed.
"Who?" I demanded. His face grew dark. He stood and walked to me, looking down, him towering at least 3 inches over me.
"Nobody."
My face burned. "Whatever. " I said as I turned to grab the doorknob but he stopped me. "What?" He growled.
"Whatever, sir."
He grabbed my shirt, lifted me up, and threw across the room. I landed on my knees, bracing myself with my arms. I stood and brushed myself off. He pushed me down again, this time hitting my head on the far wall. I stood up again, resisting the urge to rub my head.
"Come on, Special!" He egged me on. I just began to walk to the door. He grabbed my arm and turned me around, pulling his pistol from his hip holster and pressing it to my forehead. I knew I could take him out in one swift move. I knew I could. But if he did, he'd think I was a Special. He could kill me if he found out. I swallowed as he clicked the fun into action.
"I'm sorry." I said quietly. He grabbed his walkie-talkie and said, "Guards."
Two large men rushed in and secured me. "Take him to floor 0." He growled, not breaking eye contact with me. They grabbed my arms and pulled them behind me.
"What's floor 0?" I asked. He smiled wider.
"What is it? Floor 0 was an arts and crafts studio with General Aiken!" I exclaimed. I struggled against the men's grips to no avail.
"Not anymore." He said.
"What did you turn floor 0 into then?" I asked.
His eyes narrowed as he grinned even wider." Now it's your worst nightmare."
Before I could say a word, the guards pulled me out of the room. I fought them, but they were too strong.
As they dragged me through the hallways to the elevator, Andrew and Kyle were walking back from showering and saw me.
"Andrew!" I exclaimed. They ran to the men dragging me. "Stop!" Kyle said.
"Ha! Your friend here is going to floor 0, we'll see how he feels afterwards." One of them said.
"Are you killing him?" Andrew said, panicked.
The other one laughed. "He'll wish he was dead.hes going to floor 0. It's hell down there."
I struggled against their grip, but one of the men, with three bulky rings in his hand, nailed me across the face. I felt blood trickle down from my eyebrow and my lip. "Stop moving!"
Andre and Kyle each grabbed one of the men's arms, preparing to stop them.
"No!" I stopped them. The looked at me.
"Whatever it is, it can't be that bad. Just let them take me. Don't get yourselves in trouble." I said.
" good boy." The man who hit me said. He grinned and nailed me in the stomach so hard I collapsed to my knees. He grabbed me and dragged me while the other man made sure Kyle and Andrew didn't follow. I knew I could escape from the one man, but he'd hit me so hard I didn't have any breath. When we entered the elevator, the doors closed and he let me go. I stood up, still breathing hard. As the doors opened, he punched me in the stomach again, this time harder. The elevator became starry, and I couldn't even walk. He had to drag me. This man was insanely strong. We entered a dark room.
"Have fun, kiddo."
I coughed up some blood before saying, "enjoy your time in hell."
He laughed as he walked away.
