* 6 month time jump *
Elena's POV
"Nope Damon won't be home until late tonight. Probably around midnight." I sit my shopping bags on the floor and move so Caroline can join me.
"I couldn't imagine Stefan always being gone that late." Caroline says. She flops down on the couch and I shake my head.
"It's only twice a week. It's not that bad." I pick up my laptop and turn it on.
"I'm going to show you the flowers we picked out for the wedding. And the shoes I ordered." Caroline scoots closer to me and looks at the screen.
"I'm so excited, and can't believe it's 2 months away!" She lays her head on my shoulder and I smile while shaking my head.
"I'm glad you're my maid of honor." I remind her.
We spend the next hour looking at the flowers and the shoes, and then going through old photo albums of us from growing up.
"We were such cute kids." She says and closes the last photo album.
"We still are cute." I correct her and she laughs. She stands up and stretches and reaches for her bags.
"What do you have to do tomorrow?" She asks. I walk with her to the front door.
"I have a big meeting with one of my clients and my boss. We are about to publish her new book and just have to go over all the stuff one more time and set a release date." I tell her.
"When will you be off?" She asks.
"Around two I hope. I'll come straight to your place when I get off." I turn the porch light on and she heads out to her car.
"Sounds good. Love you!" She climbs into her car and starts it.
"I love you too, see you tomorrow." I wave and watch her drive down the street. I head upstairs and take a shower before climbing into bed and turning on Hulu.
Damon's POV
I walk into the house a little after 1:00. It's quiet and the only light on in the house is the light above the stove. I walk quietly up the stairs and into the bedroom. Elena is sound asleep and I smile to myself. She's so peaceful. I throw my shirt over my head and step out of my jeans and crawl in beside her. I bring her close to me and kiss her neck.
"Hi babe." She mumbles. I run my hand down her arm and kiss her shoulder.
"Shhh, go back to sleep. I'm home. I missed you." I say quietly.
"I love you." She says and before I can reply she's back asleep.
"I love you." I say anyway and fall asleep with her in my arms.
"Damon!" Elena laughs as I keep zipping her dress back down. She shoves my chest gently and zips it back up.
"I'm going to be late if you keep doing that." She smirks. I put my hands up to surrender and she laughs.
"You haven't even ate yet, your boss won't care if you're 5 minutes late." I say and we walk out of the room and downstairs.
"I don't have time to eat. I have that meeting today and I have to be early. But I'll grab something from the break room before it starts." She kisses my cheek. I hand her keys and purse to her and she smiles.
"I'll see you when I get done at Caroline's later. I'll call you when I leave work. Oh and don't forget to go look at the house I sent you yesterday." She reminds me. We've been house searching for awhile now and everything we've looked at isn't for us.
