Song of the Chapter: Nickelback-Savin Me With
CRIMSON SOAKS THROUGH the white cotton, spreading its death through the fibers of Clive's shirt as he stands there, wide-eyed. My body goes numb as I watch him slowly stumble backwards. The weight of the pistol becomes too much for my delicate fingers to hold, and the gun slips out of my hand, falling to the floor with a thump at the same time Clive does.
"Noooooo." Cynthia cries out and hurries over to her cousin before falling to her knees. "Kill them. Kill them Simon."
Coherency leaves me and I swim deeper into fog as I kneel here, looking down at my captor. His body begins to spasm, his eyes never blinking, and the gurgling sounds in his throat turn violent as he starts choking on his own blood.
I hear shuffling and thudding of more than one footsteps and growls, snarls coming from outside. Simon spins around and growls. "How the fuck did you get in here?"
I'm cold. So cold. Insects have taken over my body. I feel them creeping through my blood. They're chewing on my brain.
I don't move to run; instead, as if I'm watching a horror movie, I become a voyeur. This isn't real. This is a dream; it isn't real. The terror in his eyes is chilling as they glaze over, dilate, and stare into negative space. His body stills, paralyzed to the ground, and then I hear a familiar voice.
"My acquaintance kept it open for us." The voice says simply.
That voice.
The echoing softness, the fine edge of violence.
I know that voice. From another life. A happier life.
My heart picks up its sluggish beat, so downtrodden by weariness it barely functions. It takes all my remaining energy to twist my head to the doorway. The magnificent black raven angel wolf with two male and one female. The female with fiery red hair has a gun pointed at Cynthia. In addition, the other two have their claws and fangs out.
My chest expands on a deep breath, my body responding to the proximity of his. Even though he stands several feet away, I can feel the heady attraction, the magnetic pull of being near the other half of my soul. It've been that way with us from the very first meeting, both of us inexorably drawn to each other. And it's only now I can comprehend what Gabriel meant by being mates.
My body comes to live. And for the first time I feel my heart to beat. Although it's slowly but the rhythm is steady.
"You're gonna be okay."
Sienna's whispered voice startles me, and I slowly look over at her ghostly form. She's alive, blinking, and I see her lips moving when she speaks again. "Gabriel has come. You'll be okay, Tony."
"Oh my God, Sienna!" I whisper to myself in disbelief.
She put a finger to her lips. "Quiety. It's our little secret. I'll always live Tony. Just that, now there won't be any darkness to fill...." Something catches her attention causing her to look over and in turn pulls my attention onto the others in the room.
Tiny the Ogre appears from behind my apparition, launching himself at the angel. But Gabriel spins too fast and lunches, his lips pulls back into a fierce snarl, jaws part gleaming with sharp teeth and clamps around Tiny's throat. The crunch of bone resonates sweetly in my snarling brain. Tiny's curse dies in his throat crumples on the floor, his face utterly pale, and neck chomped as he begins choking on his breath dark blood draining from his mouth.
