I'm loving this story and these characters so much! Hopefully you're enjoying them as well.
Kane:
I wasn't paying much attention to the T.V., but Tucker thought that the low hum of voices might help Alex fall asleep. I looked over and my lips tilted up in somewhat of a smile when I saw he was right and Alex was fast asleep on his lap.
I relaxed against the back of the couch and hoped we'd get to head to bed soon. We were waiting for Rylan to get done with a meeting with his dad. I finally heard Rylan's footsteps making their way back to the living room. He took one step in the room and looked around quickly. His lips quirked up, but then his eyes narrowed on Tucker and Alex. I frowned as Rylan let out an explicative.
"What's wrong?" I asked as Tucker looked in his direction as well.
Rylan didn't answer. Instead, he moved forward so quickly that Alex must have heard him coming and sat up with a small gasp. Her eyes had barely focused on Rylan before he suddenly knelt down next to her and gently slid her borrowed pajama pants down slightly.
"How did you get this?" he inquired, gently touching what looked like a black tattoo on her hip.
She shrugged, "I'm not sure. It sort of just appeared there one morning. I keep thinking it'll go away eventually, yet I find that it's still there every morning when I get up."
Rylan stood up abruptly and changed the subject. "We should get you to bed. You've had an eventful day today and you need some rest. My dad said he'll write a note for the office at school about us being excused for the day."
Tucker stood up, still cradling Alex. "Which room am I taking her to?"
"Use the room next to mine. It's already set up. After that, we need to meet in my room. Tucker, you're welcome to stay tonight."
Tucker nodded. "Thanks, Man."
I headed for the bathroom. "I'll be there in a minute." I mumbled, desperately wishing I could climb into my warm bed and sleep until noon. I didn't handle a lack of sleep very well and I hadn't slept for over twenty one hours. I sighed as I finished in the bathroom and dragged myself to Rylan's room. I wondered if he'd have a problem with me falling asleep in his room, even though mind was literally two steps away from his.
I curled up on Rylan's bed, even though he was sitting on the other side of it. "Are you going to listen or just fall asleep, K?" Rylan asked.
"mmhmm." Was all I said as my eyes closed of their own accord.
He sighed heavily, I think, and my eyes popped open as he asked, "You guys do realize that we've found her, right?"
"What do you mean?" Tucker asked, not sure he understood correctly.
Rylan's voice got a smidgen louder as he replied, "We've found our mate."
Couldn't he have waited to tell us this news until we were all together? Or, at least until morning? I wanted to be excited about it, but I was too tired to show much enthusiasm.
Tucker frowned, "Are you sure?"
Rylan snorted as he got more comfortable. "She has the mark on her hip. It matches ours."
I sighed as I realized I should probably join the conversation. "What do we do now?"
Rylan appeared deep in thought for a moment before he replied, "we don't say anything yet. She doesn't even remember changing or Tucker changing. I don't want to completely overwhelm her. We will tell her eventually though."
