Chapter 10
Louis anxiously paced back and forth, his hands behind his back. The soft ticking of the clock mounted on the wall was the only noise that carried through the silent room. His hair looked quite a mess, matching the bags that sat under his eyes. Clearly, he did not get enough sleep.
"Okay, I'm here." I said as I slowly shut the door behind me, pushing the lock. The ongoing rainy weather had soaked my hair, causing it to drip to the floor. Unfortunately, I didn't use an umbrella.
"I've been worried sick about both of you! I've been trying to call you guys all night but neither of you guys bothered to pick up." Louis stated in a tone far from his usual cheerfulness. He didn't bother to greet me.
"I'm sorry, I must've put my phone on silent. I didn't check my calls." I apologized. The thought of Harry missing was unusual. Where the hell could he be?
"Yeah, yeah." Louis waved his hands in the air as he continued to pace back and forth. "I'm just glad you're safe."
A grin appeared on his face as he tried to hide his growing anxiety. He did a terrible job at covering it, as his eyebrows immediately returned back to furrowing.
"Why'd you even tell Harry I'm pregnant?" I asked, a little disgruntled. My embarrasment and anger towards Harry was still lingering.
"Believe me when I say this Jess, after you stormed out Harry was pissed. I felt like he needed to know." Louis responded as he chugged a glass of soda sitting on the coffee table. Once he finished the glass, he resumed his pacing.
"Well, what the hell caused him to leave and not come back?" My cheeks started to tingle as fear rose in my mind. If something bad happened to Harry, I didn't want to be the reason why. Guilt was something I couldn't handle. I took a seat on the sofa, my body feeling weak.
"I guess he was upset with himself." Louis shrugged his shoulders. "I told him to not do anything stupid."
"I'm the one whose pregnant. He had nothing to be mad at himself for." I played with my fingers, avoiding eye contact with Louis.
"Don't be mad that you're pregnant." Louis defended the baby.
"Well, we need to find Harry." The fact that I was still pissed at Harry wasn't an excuse to not care about him. I grabbed my purse as I stood up. Before Louis could respond, I was already at the door.
Louis abruptly stopped, ending his what-seemed-endless back and forth pacing. As he crossed his arms, I felt him stare at me, as if he was questioning what I was planning to do.
"Are you coming or not?" I asked, signaling for him to hurry up. I opened the door to find that it was still showering.
"Um, I'll stay." Louis stuttered. His eyes wandered across the room.
I responded with a confused look upon my face.
"I think you can tell that I didn't get much sleep." Louis said as he pointed to his eye bags.
"We're just going to drive around, Louis. Maybe Harry will be on the streets or something." I tried to convince him to come.
"Really, Jess. I'll just stay home. Okay?" Louis stubbornly replied.
"I understand." I nodded before closing the door behind me.
Once I stepped outside I immediately felt the rain soaking my already saturated hair. I pulled my jacket tighter against my body to shield myself from the freezing cold. Although it was barely noon, the blue sky was covered with dark gray clouds preventing the sun from offering any light. There was no source of happiness. During that moment of time, the world perfectly fit my mood without a doubt.
Winter had just begun. This explained the rain shower. Usually, I was filled with pure bliss as the season arrived. But this year's winter was filled with what I'd like to call pure shit. And it barely even started. The thought of Christmas coming left me clueless to what I was going to do as I walked to my car. Poor Jess. Spending it alone like every year. I must admit, Christmas was a bummer each year for me. Last year, I sat with James doing absolutely nothing. Yet, I was still happy. Unlike now. By the look of things currently, it looked like I was spending Christmas totally alone. Not just alone, but TOTALLY alone.
I almost made it halfway to where my car was parked until my train of thought was interrupted as I felt someone approach me with a tap on the shoulder. To my surprise, I found a gorgeous boy. Not the usual cute boy you see walking down the street. Something about this one intrigued me. He wore a red sweater with black jeans, paired with some matching sneakers. There was one person he reminded me of. That person was Harry.
"Can I help you?" I asked, glancing side to side to see if anyone was around.
"Well, why is there a pretty girl like you walking in this weather?" He smirked, his hands stuffed in his pocket.
"Well, I need to find a friend." I answered, imitating his 'well.' This boy sounded like the usual flirt and suddenly I found no interest in him.
"Need a lift?" He offered.
"This is cliche." I rolled my eyes, continuing my walk to the car.
"Sorry, sorry. Your name?" The boy said, determined.
"Jessica." I responded, struggling to get my keys out of my purse.
"Andrew. I live down the street. Can I ask you a question?" Andrew carried on with asking before I could even get the chance to respond. "Do you think I can maybe take you somewhere? Maybe a date? I saw you and just had to get to know you."
Who did he think he was? I was shocked that he really took the time to walk through this weather and ask me on a date.
"Fine." I gave in as I stepped into my car. Before I shut the door, Andrew took hold of my hand.
"What are you doing?" I asked as I pulled my hand away.
"Giving you my number." Andrew quickly took my hand once again.
"On my hand?" I raised an eyebrow. He was so persistant that I didn't bother pulling away from him.
"Why not?" He smirked, pulling out a sharpie. "So you don't forget."
"Oh my god." I rolled my eyes once again as he began to write the first few numbers to his cellphone.
"See you later." He smiled, before running off.
The rain made it difficult to see the road as I drove. I stared at the spot Andrew had written on my hand. I couldn't help but smile. Maybe, just maybe, this was a sign. A sign that there were other people besides Harry. I could get over him. A tingling sensation filled my body as I laughed to myself. I realized that my mood instantly went from depressed to blissful. For once, I felt a sense of joy.
That was until everything went black.
