"You what?" Michael asked, disbelief in his tone. He was speechless at him, and furious and sad.

"It was two weeks ago. It was at my bachelor party and my friends took me to a college party, for some damn reason. We got drunk and the next morning I woke up in a bed with some twenty year old girl." Eric explained and Michael just wanted to scream at this guy. "I love your mom, and I want to marry her but I can't do this to her. I cheated and I feel terrible about it."

"Then tell her." Michael said, causing Eric to look up at him in confusion.

"I can't tell her. She'll be heart broken. She'll hate me forever." Eric sighed.

"She'll hate you even more if she has to find out from her son. If you tell her now and tell her it was a mistake and show her how much you love her, then the consequences won't be as bad." Michael said, sitting down on the bed next to him. "Maybe she'll hate you and not forgive you and call off the wedding. Or maybe she be mad for a while but then forgive you because you told the truth and all will be good and honest."

Eric sat there, amazed that he was just taught a valuable life lesson by a twenty something year old.

"So, get your ass up and go down there and pull my mom to a corner and tell her everything. Then explain to her how much she means to you and how much you love her and whatever happens, happens." Michael smiled and Eric nodded and pulled Michael into a hug. Michael sighed and hugged back, enjoying it.

Eric got up and ran to the restaurant, thanking Michael as he left. Michael chuckled but it soon died down to a frown when he realized that he bonded more with this man, who was soon to be his step dad, in five minutes than he did with his real dad in the two years he knew him.

Michael's father walked out on him and his mother two years after Michael was born. He left them poor and broken hearted.

Before that Michael was such a happy and bright kid. He laughed more than he talked and he would always run around the house giggling as his dad chased him. They never had much money but they were happy with it all.

Until his dad began acting distant. He didn't chase Michael around the house and didn't tuck him into bed before telling a random fairy tail. He stopped taking Michael out for walks early in the morning to the park so they could watch the sun rise. He stopped being Michael's hero. And one day he stopped coming home.

That day changed everything. Michael was a smart kid and understood right away what was going on, despite only being two. He understood that he no longer had a father.

Michael stopped laughing and smiling that day. He rarely did it as he grew up. All his years in school were spent in pain and suffering, a hole in his heart the entire time.

Sometimes when Michael would sit at his window on a sleepless night, he'd pray that maybe, just maybe, that same green Honda would pull up in the driveway and his dad would come running out to greet them. It never happened though, no matter how many tears or prayers or pleads or calls, he never came.

So that's why Michael built up his walls. He didn't allow anyone to enter them, not even his mother for he was afraid that one day she too might leave. He didn't allow himself to get too close to people, he didn't allow himself to love. His father didn't only take his happiness that day but he took a part of Michael that would later cause him to be a reserved man unable to love.

But that part was apparently filled now. He was able to do something that he never thought he'd be able to do again. He thought his father was the only one who could put his heart back together but he was wrong. Because there was a boy waiting down at the restaurant for Michael who did exactly that. That boy filled his heart and put it back together piece by piece. That boy teared down those walls and made Michael feel happiness again.

That boy was Luke. And Michael knew at that moment that he needed to hold onto him forever. He knew that he couldn't let him go like his father did to him.

He knew that he needed to marry him.
