A knock at the door made Ariel quickly open it. She had been waiting next to her front door for the past half an hour, ridiculously excited for Nicole's surprise. She flung open the door and gave a wide grin to the woman on the other side of the door. The woman had bright purple hair just like Nicole said she would, with tattoos lining her forearms.
"Ariel?"
"You got me. Anna?"
"I'm basically your servant for the day actually." Anna looked Ariel up and down as Ariel exited her house.
"You look nice. Did you get all dressed up for this?"
"Yeah, it's one of the first warm days, so I'm taking advantage of it." Anna led her down the sidewalk, making small talk with Ariel as the two got closer to their destination.

"Where are we going Anna?" Unbeknownst to Ariel, Nicole was nearby readying herself for them to arrive.
"We're actually here. Go forward a little more and turn right, you'll be there." With that, Anna turned away and walked off to who knows where. Following her directions, Ariel came to an already set up picnic table that Nicole was standing in front of.

Nicole took a deep breath, smiled, and walked towards Ariel.

Ariel took a deep breath, smiled, and looked at Nicole, her eyes catching on something she noticed now that Nicole was wearing shorts.
Nicole's right leg was a prosthetic.

Nicole reached Ariel, tightly holding onto the bouquet of pink and white tulips with both her hands.
"Hi." Nicole smiled widely at Ariel.
"Hi." Ariel smiled back. Nicole cleared her throat and knelt down so she was looking up at Ariel.
"I just wanted you to know, that I've enjoyed every second I've spent with you. I am forever grateful that the stars aligned for us to meet. There is no one I would rather stay up with and talk about our stupid cats with." Nicole's grin grew even wider as she offered the flowers to Ariel.
"Ariel, I've known you for at least eight months now. You're funny as hell, a little bit of an alcoholic, and the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. I'm nothing without you. Will you be my girlfriend?" Ariel took the flowers and rubbed her eyes with a fist, looking at Nicole.
Then, she reached down, held Nicole's cheeks, and kissed her. After a moment she pulled away and smiled at Nicole.
"Hell yes."
