chapter one
Shay's Point of ViewI can't help but feel bummed as soon as I saw the sun coming up, giving me a sign that it's another new day, meaning another day of torture from the emptiness inside my heart. This is how my life goes ever since I turned eleven, sleepless nights, watching the sun come up from my window, endure every day of insults and small beatings.
My alarm started blaring loudly from my nightstand. I turned it off and stood up. I didn't need that alarm, I never sleep anyway. After cleaning myself up for another new day, I went to the kitchen and started making breakfast for the whole pack. This is who I am, the pack maid. I was never worthy enough to be the Beta of my Alpha brother. I was too humiliating for him, so he made me the maid, he said that's what I was good at anyway, cleaning the whole house and making them food.
It was only six thirty in the morning when I finished making their breakfast, I went to the dining room and put all of the plates and glasses on the tables. They don't get up until seven. So, I took this time to make myself a bacon and toast, I've always loved pairing them up together. I made sure to finish my food quickly before someone sees me eating. They never let me eat, they said to wait until all pf them are finished eating but when I try to eat there are no leftovers left for me to eat, so I always end up starving.
Someone came in the dining room, making me snap my head up in their direction, relief flooded my veins when I saw it was only Cassidy. "You scared me. I thought you were my brother or other pack members." I mumbled.
Cassidy was my only friend, she has alwas stayed by my side ever since we were kids, ever since the incident. She never once left me despite what she heard about my violent actions, she never even questioned me about it, she just stayed.
"Let me help you." Cassidy smiled.
"I was done anyway." I shrugged my shoulders, "Start eating before they all come here and finish these foods for you." I put all of the food on the dinner table and took out three orange juice boxes and started to fill up every cup I've laid on the two long dinner tables.
(just imagine that the table is longer than the picture)
Soon enough my brother came inside the dining room, Cassidy stood up and bowed her head to him, getting her plate and went to the connected kitchen silently to put her plate in the sink, about to wash it.
My brother, Jared, stopped her by speaking, "Do not wash that, my mate. We have a maid for a reason."
My head snapped up to stare at him, my eyebrows furrowing in confusion if I just heard him right. Mate? Did I just hear him call Cassidy his mate? I looked at Cassidy and she seemed to tense up from his words.
