Trying To Move On

Chapter 1

Serena:

"Thats it folks! The battle is over! The winner is champion Diantha!" The announcer shouted as the audience screamed. The audience was so loud Serena couldn't even hear her own thoughts. 'How could Ash lose? He's the best battler ever. Second to only Diantha I guess.' Serena thought to herself. She looked on as Ash picked up his now fainted partner Pikachu and walked back to the tunnel he had entered through only moments ago. He had his head hung low so that his hat covered his eyes. She knew that he was devastated. She had never seen him react to a lose like that. He had worked so hard all year and it all came to this last battle. And it sucked. She and her friends, Bonnie and her older brother Clement, left the stadium in hopes of finding Ash. They exited the stadium and saw him running. They tried to pursue but he was simply too fast. They had lost him.

"What are we going to do now Clement? We can't just let him run away!" Serena yelled to the now panting Clement.

"He'll... be.. fine... Serena. He's a big boy and.... doesn't need us... right now." He tried saying back in between huffs. She looked off towards where he ran and looked with worry 'oh Ash' she thought.

"What should we do now guys?" Bonnie asked now on the verge of tears.

"Let's go and wait for Ash at the Pokémon center. Ash will have to come eventually to sleep." Clement replied trying to calm her down.

Serena only nodded, still looking off towards where Ash had left to. They started heading towards the center and got some rooms. They had gotten 3 so that Ash could have his own upon his return. Hours had no passed and Ash was still not back. They ate in silence, not knowing what to say. After they finished, they waited in the lobby for their friends to come back. A few hours had again passed and still no sign. Bonnie and Clement then went to their rooms leaving Serena alone to wait. Serena passed the time sitting on her cell phone playing some games and checking out social media but she couldnt get her mind off of Ash, that's all she ever seemed to think about now. All throughout his journey she had liked him. She had left on her journey to meet him in the hopes he would remember her from camp only to have him forget. He even took the time to help her with her performances and she had accomplished her dream! She had become the Kalos queen not even a month ago and it was all because of Ash. She only hoped she could tell him how she really felt, how she liked him to the point that it might even be love. But everything she tried to say something she was interrupted or just couldn't find the words. As Serena was deep in thought she barely heard the automatic doors rush open. She turned her head away from her phone and saw him walk in. It was Ash. He was still holding his head down and Pikachu was walking in the same manor.

"Ash come sit over here!" She said. She hoped she could cheer him up. She hated seeing him like this. "Come talk to me, maybe I can help" she smiled warmly at him and he hesitantly walked over.

"Hey Serena..., why are you still up?" He asked with his voice full of sorrow.

"Well, I was waiting for you" she said while blushing. "I was hoping you could tell me what's wrong." She then patted the seat next to her on the couch. He reluctantly walked over and slumped down.

"I'm a failure" He said, "every time I enter a league I get close but still lose. On matter how hard I train, or who I use, I just can't win." He pulled his head even lower. "So I've decided to just take a break. I'm going home to Pallet town to train for a long time."

"But Ash you can't just give up on your dream!" She said to him. "What about being a pokemon master? You can't give up until the end. That's what you say!"

"I know Serena. I'm not giving up just putting it on hold for now. But I need to know something..." He said pausing at the end and looking down once more.

"What is it Ash?" She said softly. 'What does he want to ask, if this is going where I think it's going I think my heart is going to explode!' She thought.

"Well... Serena I was wondering if you wanted to come.... to come back home with me. Stay with me while I train. You've motivated me so much on this journey and I could really use your help... and I kinda have a crush on you" He said pausing near the end. 'He wants me to go with him? Of course I want to go! I like him too! Wait.., wait. He likes me? But I'm the queen.... I can't just leave, I have things I have to do here in Kalos'

"Ash.., I would love to come.." she looked at him and he started to smile once more at this. God she loved that smile. "But I cant. I'm the queen and I can't just leave.... can't you just stay here? I like you too and I don't know what I'd do without you..." she said. As she looked into Ash's perfect brown eyes. But they weren't what they once more. As he stared into hers all she saw was sadness. His once lifeless smile that he held only moments ago had crept back to a frown and his eyebrows were no scrunched together.

"I can't do that Serena... I need to be somewhere else... anywhere else except here... I need to leave." He said. "So your not coming?"

She only continued looking at him. She stared into his amber eyes for what seemed like forever until she spoke up "Ash I cant. I just cant. I need to be here. I'm sorry" Her eyes started to water as she spoke. This was killing her, the boy of her dreams was asking her to run away with him.. and she was saying no.

"Then I guess it's goodbye Serena.... take care of yourself" He whispered. He stood up and leaned in towards Serena. He kissed her on the forehead and left the center, leaving Serena by herself once more. She could only watch in shock as the man of her dreams walked out the door. She looked down and started to cry. What has she done. She could've said yes, or maybe just talked to him about this. Maybe she could have just made him stay.... but he's gone now... maybe for good.
