Kaira had long changed into her robes, the blue Ravenclaw crest sewn into the breast of the fabric. Now she lay on the seat, Clockwork Angel held above her head like a trophy.

She scanned the pages rapidly, blue eyes sliding back and forth in a steady rhythm. A creaky sound made her concentration snap away from the book and to the door of her lone compartment, heart beating fast.

"Anything from the trolley, dear?" Kaira rolled her eyes. She had been frightened by the trolley lady. Kai set her book on the smooth seat and fetched her pouch of money.

"Two chocolate frogs please," Kai muttered, handing the lady two Galleons. "Keep the change."

As the trolley lady moved on, Kai ended up on the floor of the compartment. She studied the paper in her hands with a hard glare. Across the paper in swirly writing was threats in dark red ink. Though Kaira hadn't known it at the time, the note had been writing in blood, thick and dark.

The words danced around her mind, taunting her.

If you, Kaira Nighy, do not obey my future commands, your family and filthy friends will find themselves in a risky situation. Listen to me now, stay away you filthy mudblood. Your family 's blood will trail in your footsteps, their screams will cry out to you for help in your sleep. You'll never be at peace ever again. Now, await my commands and be a good mudblood and stay in your place: powerless.

They were feasting on her sanity, no matter how hard she tried to steal it back, the words were hungry for more. They partied and sang until she was muttering them herself, short and choppy sentences in an odd tone that were incomprehensible to anyone but herself and the demons dancing in her mind.

Kaira shook her head and quickly unwrapped her Chocolate Frog. Shoving the wonderful goodness in her mouth before in hopped away, she looked at her new card. Kai groaned as the insulted picture of Dumbledore stared at her.

I've got four of him already, I'll give it to Val if I see him. she thought.

The door slammed open once again, a flustered girl flopped onto the seat across from her. Kai remembered to shove the piece of paper back in her robes before the other girl could see it.

"What did you do Alex?" Kaira sighed and pushed herself off the floor, choosing to stare across the compartment at her friend rather than look up at her. Alex Coleton grinned sheepishly at her friend, Gryffindor robes in disorder and blonde hair thrown all over the place.

"Nothin', trying to find you." Kai opened her mouth to protest that Alex was probably doing something mischievous but Alex gave her a look that made her mouth snap shut once again.

That's what Kai liked about their friendship, Alex never pushed her to spill secrets and Kaira always did the same. There was a certain line that they stayed behind to maintain their friendship and they were fine with that. They knew mostly everything about each other anyways, Alex knew about Kai's monthly problem and Kai knew about Alex's mother.

"I ran into Lily." Kai mentioned nonchalantly, swinging a leg up on the seat in front of her. She was now mimicking her friend's position across from her. She observed the compartment wall, eyes raking the few dents and cracks that had made their way there years ago.

Some writing adorned small corners, mainly love letters. Kai had never liked the idea of romance, unless it was in books.

"Oh, yeah?" Alex replied uneasily. To be honest, she knew Kai and Lily never had the most agreeable relationship, they used to get in fights and she would hear both ends of it. Most of the time, it was Kaira or Lily being unreasonable shits. Their personalities clashed in Alex's opinion.
