Kaira walked into Hogwarts with Xenophilius, surprised that she enjoyed his company. She liked how he rambles on passionately about his creatures.
She liked how he payed her attention and tries to make her feel warm and fuzzy. Quite frankly, she hated to say it but she liked Xeno.
He lead her to the Ravenclaw table in the Great Hall and held her in her seat on the bench. People stayed away from them, preferring to talk behind their back rather than to their face.
Alex threw a confused look to her across the Hall and Kai replied with a shrug and a small smile. Xeno liked Kai's company as well. If she asked, he would probably flat out tell her liked her.
"Do you ever sit with anyone else during meals?" Xeno asked as they waited for the first years.
"Sometimes I sit with Alex," she glanced at him and pointed to the Gryffindor table where Alex was sitting with Marlene, Lily, Mary and Alice. "And Lily. Their friends don't like me too much but I just go for Alex."
"That's kind of you. I don't like Marlene McKinnon, she sleeps with too many people." Xenophilius replied, his nose scrunching a bit. Kai stared at him, slightly pissed off.
"She can sleep with who she wants." Kaira snapped.
Xeno scolded himself, he couldn't help but be honest. It was one of hus cursed personality traits, one that he hated. He hung his head and nodded in agreement.
"You're right, I'm sorry if I offended you." Xeno apologized quietly. Kaira's glare softened, Xeno really did look sorry.
"You know what? Forget about it, it's fine." She smiled. Xeno's heart leaped at her smile and he stared at her. Not in a creepy, perverted way, but in a way that made her feel special, like she could rule the world.
Soon enough, Professor McGonagall strode in with the first years in neat lines. She caught Val's eye and smiled. He beamed at her, his jet black hair and honey eyes stood out among the first years making even third years admire his looks.
Xeno looked to where she was staring and gave her a small smile.
"Is that your brother?" Xeno asked, observing Val. The siblings looked nothing alike at first glance, though if you looked very hard you could see that they had the same nose and eye shape.
Kai glanced at him but kept most of her attention on the ceremony as McGonagall races through the list.
"Yeah, he's been excited. He wants to get into Hufflepuff." Kai chuckled. "Hufflepuffs are pretty awesome."
Xeno smiles but didn't reply because of the fact that McGonagall had been reaching the L names, he knew that Kaira wanted her full attention on her brother.
"Lablanc, Brie!" A mousy looking girl nervously trotted up to the stool and had the Sorting Hat placed atop her head. In no time the girl was sorted into Hufflepuff.
"Macnair, Thomas!" A proud boy practically ran up to the Hat, showing no signs of nerves except the tenseness in his shoulders that Xeno and Kai easily noticed. Before the Hat even touched his head, the first year was sorted into Gryffindor.
"Nighy, Valko!" Kaira's vision zoomed in on her brother, noticing his wobbly steps and the way he tucked his chin to his chest as he walked to the Hat made her heart ache. She wanted to run up and hug him tightly and tell him to not be scared.
"Well, well...another Nighy. More optimistic than your sister that's for sure..." In Kai, Val and Xeno's eyes, the Hat was asking for an ass kicking. Kai was tempted to yell out a nice curse to the Hat but refrained for her brother's sake. "Very cunning...and intelligent. You wish for your sister to care for you as she once did and you will not give up."
Valko knew he wasn't getting into Hufflepuff at that moment, not surprisingly, he was terrified.
"SLYTHERIN!"
No clapping occurred for the youngest Nighy. Most students and teachers were too shocked to do anything. A muggle born Slytherin. Kaira clenched her jaw and stood, slapping her hands together viciously.
Xeno snapped out of it and followed her lead, standing to clap for Valko. The only thing Kaira felt was anger; a cold, strong anger. Her brother will get beaten to a pulp with those assholes living with him.
Her sweet, kind brother would get influenced by the poisonous views of Purebloods.
Remus saw the girl standing and his heart leaped. That must be her brother, there was a slight resemblance between the two. No one else might've noticed it but after all the staring he does, Remus saw the slight curve of both their noses and their bright eyes couldn't compare to anything else.
No doubt the Nighy family had good genes.
He stood, ignoring the confused looks from his friends and immediately started clapping along with Xenophilius and the girl. She was a Nighy, he didn't know her first name. His classes didn't line up with the Ravenclaws.
James was the first of his friends to get the gist and as soon as the Marauders started clapping, the rest of the school went along with it.
The Slytherins didn't know whether they could handle having a mudblood in their Common Room. A few Slytherins whose views didn't cloud their manners stood along with the school. Valko jogged of the centre of attention and sat alone at the very edge of the table.
Kaira could tell Val didn't want to talk to anyone and that's what stopped hee from going over there and hugging the life out of him, stopped her from going and telling him that everything was going to be fine. Xeno noticed the distressed look on Kai's face and gave her a brief sidehug.
"He'll be okay." Xeno reassured her.
"Maybe."
Little did they know, a certain werwolf was watching from the Gryffindor with a hurt look painted on his face. Remus didn't like seeing another guy's arm around the girl, he didn't like that Xeno knew her name and he didn't.
The Marauders could see where Remus' gaze was directed and chose to not tease him for once. He was hurting and even the Marauders knew not to tease someone when they were hurting.

"Thanks for walking with me to the Common Room, Xeno." Kai said, poking his pale cheek jokingly. Xeno grinned and nodded, letting her go in the Common Room after she muttered an answer to the eagle knocker. He was about to go in as well but a voice calling made him stop.
"Xenophilius! Xenophilius!" He turned and spotted Remus Lupin. The scarred boy smiled and wheezed as he leaned on the wall next to the blond. Xeno decided a while ago that he liked Remus. He was respectable, smart and generally nice to others.
"Hello Remus, you seen any Nargles lately?" Xeno greeted. Remus smiled distractedly.
"Can't say I have Xenophilius..." Remus replied. "How have you been?"
Xeno could see very clearly that Remus was only asking because of his manners. He didn't mind, as he said, he liked Remus' company.
"Father got me a book to help me with my own, I was just telling Kai about it." Xeno chirped. Remus' shoulders sagged.
