Chapter 48

Utau’s POV

“Finally.” She whispers into the dark room.

“Mom.” I greet.

“So you remembered.” She steps forward into the light, her mask gone and her long blonde hair tumbling down her back.

Her onyx eyes give a twinkle.

“I don’t understand.”

She sighs.

“I didn’t think you would, Sweet.

“Let me start from the beginning. The VERY beginning.”

“Amaya used to be human.” She starts.

I raise an eyebrow.

“It’s true. Well, in a sense.

“You see, her parents couldn’t have a child but one day her mother sustained an injury and had to be healed with a large amount of chakra. It’s strange and doesn’t completely make sense but through that added chakra her mother was able to get pregnant.

“When she was born Amaya looked, acted, and was normal despite her unusual birth with the exception of her large amount of chakra.

“When she was older the Sage of the 6 paths took her on as an apprentice.”

I scoff.

“Would you just listen, Utau?”

“Now, eventually the point in time came for him to seal the 10 tails inside of him. Amaya helped but something went wrong which caused her skin to turn purple and for her to become immortal.” She begins to walk back and forth, using her hands to exaggerate her point.

I rolled my eyes.

“And you expect me to believe this why?”

“Insolent girl! Your mother speaks the truth!

“That fool of a sage banished me to this island after the 10 tails was dealt with.”

“And why would he do that?” I ask aloud.

“He banished her because she became power hungry and wanted the power of the beasts all to herself.” Mother continues.

“That bastard made it so I couldn’t leave the damn island without help.”

I stifled a laugh.

“Amaya lived alone on the island for hundreds of years.”

“Until Dear Utau and Akurai arrived.” I can hear the smile in her voice.

“Utau? Akurai’s wife was named Utau?”

My mother’s eyes narrow.

“Now I know why you wanted to name my daughter Utau so badly.” She comments.

I turn towards her, deep lines of confusion lining my brow.

“Yes, yes. Well I couldn’t resist the irony.” She chuckles.

“Tell her what happened next, Amaya.” Mother commands.

“Very well. Listen closely, young one.

“You remember your clan history do you not?” I nod even though she can’t see me.

“Then you must remember Akurai’s brother, Kurai.

“When he arrived on the island I discovered he somehow knew of my past and was plotting to get rid of me.

“Being human and very naïve he let me convince him to kill his brother and sister-in-law.

“Before he did the foul deed the bastard sealed me inside of Utau then finished off his brother.

“Then he removed the seal and sealed me inside of Utau’s daughter, instantly killing dear Utau.

“Since then I have been like a family heirloom, passed down from generation to generation, daughter to daughter, and never seeing the light of day through my own eyes.”

“Amaya thought your grandmother was weak. Didn’t you?” Mother directs the last part to Amaya.

“I had almost forgotten that scheming witch.”

“Of course, Amaya sensed my strength and plotted with me to get her out of that old prison.”

“We succeeded too, although the old hag didn’t die.”

I blink, my mind in a whirl.

“This isn’t making much sense is it, child?”  Amaya asks, a slight sneer in her voice.

“Sigh, must I do everything myself? Very well, I will show you the rest.”
