Marcel's POV

After school I walked out to my car when I saw a girl leaning on it. It was Megan.

"Hey," I say confused and she looks up at me. She has a few tears but they are hidden behind her glasses.

"Oh my gosh, are you okay?" I asked running up to her. She shook her head and surprisingly hugged me.

I hugged back unsure of what to say or do. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have freaked you out," she said noticing my puzzled expression.

Megan started to walk away but I grabbed her hand, "Wait."

"What?" She asked wiping under her eye with her other hand.

"Please tell me what's going on," I said to her.

She doesn't say anything which makes me really impatient, "I know you don't know me very well, and I don't know you but I would like too."

She smiles and adjusts her glasses. Her smile then turns to a frown, "I'm not sure."

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"How can I trust you?" She questions.

"Well, who would I tell? And besides I know already a little bit," I admit and wished I hadn't. Her face goes pale and bites her lip.

"Who told you?" She asked a little angry now.

"Nobody told me everything but just about your childhood, that's all I promise," I say and she calms a bit at my words.

"Fine," she says and takes a deep breath, then she looks around and a few people are near.

"Not here," she finally says and I pick at my keys.

"We can talk about it somewhere else," she adds and I nod getting into my car.

She sits in the passenger seat and I start it up pulling out of the parking lot. "So where to?"

"Um, we can go to that park over there," she says and I stop the car beside the small park.

It's pretty and has old slides and swings. She gets out of the car fast and hurries to the swings where she plops down making it shake.

I walk over to her and she starts to sway back and forth. I sit down beside her and patiently wait for her to speak.

"Well first of all, my mom has always had a drinking problem when I was little. That's why my father left and she remarried so that's why I moved here," she breathes out skimming through memories.

"But my step dad is, lets just say tough," she continues and kicks rocks on the ground with her feet.

"And he is very mean to me, and I've tried to tell my mom but she's too caught up in him to notice," she finally says which sets me on edge.

"I'm sorry Megan," I reply really meaning it and she smiles.

"It's no big deal," she shrugs.

"No it is, and I want you to know you can talk to me. Even if I'm new, I am pretty trustworthy," I say making her smile bright.

"Thank you Marcel, it really means a bunch," she responds.

"So what happened this morning?" I ask and she frowns once more.

"Sorry, that was stupid to ask," I correct myself.

"No, it's fine. And well my mom was working late so she couldn't wake him up. So when I didn't he screamed and called me horrible things," she says as if she's playing it through her mind.

"What an asshole," I say. She laughs at my words which makes her confused.

"What?" I ask.

"It's just that, you don't look like you would cuss," she says.

"You don't know a lot," I say back and her eyes widen.

"Like how a lot?"

"A lot, a lot," I reply.

"Explain," she demands which makes me laugh.

"I actually have a temper believe it or not," I tell her and she shakes her head in disapproval.

"It's true," I defend.

"You're cars pretty cool, no offense," she says looking towards my car.

"Non taken," I say raising my arms up.

"I might be a nerd but I do have another side," I add and she nods.

"Same," she says and turns her head to her feet.

"Don't you just feel so unnoticed by everyone? Like you could just disappear and no one would notice?" She asks.

"All the time," I sigh.

"Well I would notice," she said laughing.

"Thanks," I say and nudge her.

We talked and talked for what seemed like hours and it started to get dark. "What time is it?"

"About six," I answer.

"Damn," she says and runs to my car.

"Why are we hurrying?"

"I have to get home to cook dinner for him," she says.

"You know you don't have to do it," I say and she turns around.

"What do you mean?" She snarls back.

"Well you could report him or something."

"Come on Marcel, nobody would believe me," she snaps back and gets into the car. Why the hell is she being so defensive?

"Can you take me back to the school, my cars still there?" She asks and I nod almost racing to get there.

"Hey, do you want my number incase you want to talk?" I ask and we are halfway there.

"Sure," she says and I tell her and she saves it in her phone.

"Thanks Marcel, I'll try to text you tonight," she says getting out of the car.

"No problem. Oh and Megan, if you need anything just ask, okay?"

She nods and waves goodbye leaving me in the abandoned parking lot. So Megan had a pretty messed up life, very big compared to mine. I used to think just because my parents divorced meant I had it hard, but I was totally wrong.

She didn't tell me everything, I could tell. But I understand completely, I'm not complaining. I'm happy she trusts me a little and I'm sure she is too. Lets just hope we grow closer so I can help her though this.
