"It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be."

Chapter 7

Arthur anxiously walked forward, his hands shaking a little, light-headed and a nervous feeling in his stomach. He had no idea where he'd go, what he'd become, how his housemates would accept him. He sat down on the stool, and felt how the Hat was placed carefully on his head. It stayed silent for what seemed like forever.

"You're a hard one, lad. You're not a Hufflepuff, that's clear. You've got the qualities, but the qualities for the others are too strong.."

Arthur coughed.

"Hmm... Yes, yes... Ah.. Slytherin!"

Arthur walked to the table when the Hat had been taken off his head. He sat down next to Silver, who high-fived him cheerfully. "Welcome to the club!"

"Kirkland, Blake!"

And Arthur's mood was ruined. "Oh, hell no."

The boy was quickly sorted into Slytherin, and sat down next to Arthur.

"Oh, hell no," repeated Arthur.

"Hey, Artie!" said Blake cheerfully. Arthur closed his eyes and focused on the ceremony. He had missed the sorting of another boy that was sorted into Slytherin, that sat down next to the light-haired girl opposite Arthur.

"Popescu, Vladimir!" was now called forward. Arthur raised his thumbs towards the boy, who returned the gesture. He was quickly sorted into Gryffindor, and sat down next to Alfred.

"Potter, Albus!" was a difficult case. The Sorting Hat took a long while debating between Gryffindor ("Another Potter, and again also Weasley family...") and Slytherin ("You have the right determination for a Slytherin, too."), but settled for Slytherin. Arthur clapped with the rest of the table as he sat down, though Blake, Natalia and Alicia seemed pumped to have the boy in their house.

"Sinistra, Kay!" was sorted into Hufflepuff quickly, and one of the teachers looked abnormally proud. "Väblahblah what even--, Tino!" (the whole school was laughing) was also sorted into Hufflepuff. Silver nudged Arthur and pointed at the "new OTP", where a second-year Hufflepuff and Kay had started a conversation awkwardly.

"Vargas, Feliciano!" was sorted into Gryffindor, with loud cheering from the table, and the headmaster.

"Wang, Mei Xiao!" was sorted into Hufflepuff, and "Weasley, Rose!" was sorted into Ravenclaw, with loud cheering from Albus. Last was "Winchester, Sam!" who was also quickly sorted into Ravenclaw.

"Silence, please!" said professor Vargas, and the chatter in the Hall stopped. All attention turned to the headmaster.

"Now that's everyone's been sorted, I'd like to clear up a few things again. The Forest is forbidden for any students, no reason is good enough. At the end of the year, the House with the most points wins nothing at all! And... uhh. I was going to say something else. I don't remember. Welcome to Hogwarts, everyone, and we hope you feel home!"

Everyone laughed. Professor Vargas clapped in his hands once and food appeared on the table. Kay looked at it anxiously, and the boy next to him laid his hand on his arm and told him something Arthur didn't hear. Kay smiled a little and nodded, looking at the food the other boy pointed out and taking some of it.

"I'm hungry!" exclaimed Silver, and they got themself a truckload of food on one plate. Arthur chuckled and got himself a decent amount of food.

The light-haired girl opposite Arthur frowned, staring behind him, just before someone tapped Arthur's shoulder. Arthur frowned as well and turned around, facing a fourth, fifth, maybe even sixth year Gryffindor. "Uh, hello," he said awkwardly.

Blake turned around as well. "Who's that?"

"Allistor," the Gryffindor replied, "Allistor Sterling-Kirkland, actually."

Allistor was quite tall, red hair that reminded Arthur of his father's and family signature thick eyebrows, as well as Arthur's green eyes. His facial features were a mix of his father's and someone else's, and his accent was very Scottish. Arthur looked beside him, but his cousin only shrugged.

Arthur bit his lip. "Hello, Allistor."

"The hell  he thinks he's doing, talking to a Gryffindor?" said a boy with a scowling tone a few seats away from Arthur.

"Ross Kirkland," Allistor spoke. Arthur gasped softly, that was his father.

"What about him?" asked the blond softly.

"Left my mum alone with me when I was one, for another woman he'd been planning to marry. Valerie, her name was, or so mum told me."

"That's my mom," replied Arthur. "Does that mean we're... Brothers?"

"Clearly."

Arthur almost smiled. If he'd known this before, he might have had someone to go to during Donald's torturing period, during all the crap he'd gone through.

But Allistor didn't seem proud, or happy.

"Just wanted to clear that up. I'll be going back now."

The Scot left, and the silent part of the Slytherin table, and even a part of the Ravenclaw table that had been listening, began murmuring to each other in a confused tone. The boy opposite Blake leaned over the table a little.

"It's okay, my brother's in Gryffindor as well. Just like the rest of my family, except my cousin Rose," he said, motioning to the Ravenclaw table, where Lukas was talking to a red-haired girl. "She's the one Lukas is talking to."

"You know Lukas?" asked Arthur.

"Yeah, his dad was in my dad's year. A Hufflepuff, though Lukas being a Ravenclaw is no surprise to me. My mum was friends with him."

"You're Albus, right?"

"That's me."

"Okay," chuckled Arthur.

"Hey, I'm curious," said the other girl opposite Silver, "What's everyone's blood status? I'm half-blood, as both my parents were."

"I don't know, I could be half-blood," said Silver. "I never knew my father."

"My mum is full-blood, but my dad's Muggleborn. Half-blood," said the girl opposite Arthur.

"Half-blood," said Blake, "My dad's a Muggle."

"I have no idea, I could be half-blood and pure-blood, depending on how you define them," said Albus. "My dad says it's safest to say I'm half-blood, though."

All eyes were now on Arthur. He frowned, he was the only Muggleborn in his House's first year.

"He's Muggleborn," said Blake after a while of silence. "His mum's my dad's sister. His dad's a Muggle too."

"Cool," grinned Albus, "My aunt's a Muggleborn, smartest of her year. Every year again. My grandma also was Muggleborn."

The feast continued (and Silver continued shipping) for a long time before the food disappeared off the table and everyone was to be led to their dormitories.
