Chapter four: Geeks and Freaks

After my first class where I constantly ignored Isabelle’s pathetic attempts to be my friend, I was looking for Jessie, and I saw him. His hair was pushed back today; he was talking with a friend of his and laughing. I loved seeing him laughing.

When we were kids we were inseparable, him and I, probably because I was in love with him back then, and when I had something in my head there was no way of stopping me. Back then I was the source of his laughter and he was mine. So I loved seeing him laugh, I always had.

There was something different though when I looked at him now, I felt different things, the old feelings were still there but we didn’t know each other anymore. Would we really know one another again like we used to?

When I got closer to Jessie, I felt them again, the tingles, they were going up my arms and down my back, where the tattoo was. I stopped and yanked up my sleeve, I traced the marking on my arm with my finger they felt hot at the touch.

“Jessie” I said pushing down my sleeve, walking up to him, he looked at me and said goodbye to his friend.

“Are you okay?” he asked me quickly pulling me into a hug.

“I'm fine, how are you?” I asked him giving him the same worried look he was giving me he sighed and shook his head.

“I'm not the one who ran out of school yesterday without reason” he retorted.

“About that-”

“You don’t need to explain to me” he said before I could make an excuse, “You look different today” he declared, I looked up at him under my lashes trying not blush as he pushed a strand of hair behind my ear.

“I feel different, a better different” I announced to him once I could find my words again, he looked at me funnily but he smiled and that smile reached all the way up to his beautiful eyes.

“Would you like to go out with me tomorrow night?” he asked suddenly, as we were walking down the halls.

“Sure we can, would you mind if I brought my new friend Wendy along, I have a feeling she doesn’t get out much” I said to him smiling, but his smile dimmed slightly.

“Sure, do you always bring your new friends on dates with you?” he asked, I froze on the spot for a second, I looked up at Jessie, his big brown eyes full of questions.

“Date?” I repeated.

“Yes, date, I just asked you out Bambi” Jessie said, he stood there awkwardly for a moment, I admit it I was dragging it out a little longer than I should have, it's just I never really thought that this would happen, ever.

“Just me and you, on a date?” I asked, he just nodded to me, I closed my mouth again and started to think about all those times when I was a kid and I wanted this, I wanted him to want me and now he does, well I think he does, do friends go on dates?

“As in a romantic date?” I asked him, he just laughed at me, great.

“Yes or no would be nice Bambi, I kind of feel like I'm getting rejected here” he said with a smile dancing on his lips.

“Don’t you and Isabelle have a ‘thing’” I asked him, he moved forward slightly and I moved back my back firmly against the row of lockers, he placed his hand under my chin and made me look him in the eye, my heart was racing and my tattoo’s tingling.

“Do you believe me and her have a thing?” he asked huskily, his voice shaking slightly like he was trying to decide to do something himself and a decision was made then and there. He moved in and placed his lips softly against mine, and I melted, it was like I’d always dreamed. He was what I dreamed.
