"Whoo!" It was a scorcher today, reaching a record high, and the AC was busted in the library of all days. All the fans were on, but it was like working in an oven. Ayumi wanted to go for drinks after work, but i was too tired from working the stacks today that I had to take a rain check. I stopped by the market and got some ice cream for the guys. i'm sure they could use it. Especially Yukinojo.
"Welcome home, [___]." Samon greeted me with a gentle smile that reached his eyes. "How was work? Oh, let me get that," he said as he took the shopping from me.
"Hi, Samon. It was terrible," I said as I relinquished the bag. "The AC was broken today, but we couldn't close because it was a school night so we just kinda suffered." I sighed heavily and stretched my aching arms. "I got ice cream for everyone." I turned to greet the guys and saw several fans on but no one was in the living room. "Where is everyone?"
"They got called to the mononoke village and won't be back for a few days," Samon informed me as we walked towards the kitchen.
"Guess it can't be much better there, huh?" I wiped my brow as Samon got me a glass of ice water.
"Not really," he sighed as he put the ice cream away. "At least they won't be bothering us about how hot it is." Samon said this with a smile and I laughed a little. I never knew ayakashi couldn't handle the heat until this heat wave happened.
I nod in acknowledgement and sighed. My shoulders slumped, it felt like it was going to be a long suffering night with this heat. "Guess I'll just go take a bath before dinner."
"I was about to tell you that you should do that," Samon said with that soft smile that makes all my troubles go away. "Dinner will be ready soon. We'll eat on the porch tonight. Some fresh air will do you some good. It should also be cooler than being inside a stuffy room."
"Alright then!" I head to my room and get my things before heading to the bathroom.
I finish my long bath and am greeted to the smells of fried things and curry. I'm dressed in a simple yukata and the loose fabric is so much more comfortable compared to my regular clothes. My was happily growling in anticipation of the meal that I'll be having alone with Samon. It then dawned on me that we're home alone and my hear skipped a beat. Why am I feeling this way? Not the first time Samon and I were home alone. And since discovering he was ayakashi, it did make me feel a little different. Not a bad different but, safer I guess. And since choosing him, the guys have kind of let up on picking on him. Not that they really have since they're all friends. But, I think we've all become closer.
Just picturing Samon's smiling face as he greeted me made my heart skip another beat. Stop it, I tell myself as I made my way towards the back. It's just dinner as usual. The door to the back of the house was open. Lamps were lit up and the crickets were singing their nightly summer song. The stars sparkle in the clear sky and it's like the perfect night.
Samon came out and saw me standing there. "Oh good! For a second, I thought I'd have to come in and rescue you from a drowning or something." He laughed lightly as he passed by me with a plate of steaming curry. He pecked a kiss on my cheek in passing and the spot grew hot. I held my hand there to hide the fact that my face was growing hot. Setting the plate down, he gestured for me to come and sit and I do so.
"This looks great!" Bowls of rice, tamago, salad, miso, fried benito. I think i was drooling because Samon reached over and wiped at the corner of my mouth. "Oh my god! Was I drolling?!" I rub at my mouth in haste now that I might have been caught in the act.
Samon chuckled and smiled at me. "Just a little. It was really cute." He chuckled some more when his comment made my blush reappear. "Nothing to be ashamed of, [___]. It's just you and me." Not helping!
