The Fortune Teller

July 12, 2112 - Somewhere in Japan

I stood in line to buy a train ticket for the newly built bridge under the sea connecting Japan and the Philippines. Today is its grand opening and I can already see the stage set-up near the boarding station. This underwater bridge will not only make it easier for people to travel back and forth within the two countries, but it will also serve as a tourist spot. I can't wait to experience riding the train while watching different sea creatures swim outside my window!

This project has been on development for three years now after the invasion of a mysterious entity that rattled the whole Asia. Japan and Philippines were the two most involved countries and it took them weeks and lost thousands of lives to stop it. Besides that, there were no other details about this invasion. No one knew of how or why it all happened. Everything was a secret from the public.

I walked towards the ticket booth showing my passport and my invitation.

"Can I get a one-way ticket please?" I asked the saleslady.

"Oh, planning to live there, sister?" she asked with a smile on her face.

"No, I'll just go there for business and I'm not really sure when I'll be back."

"Oooh... Good for you, sister. It must have something to do with some church activities, huh?" she said as she checked my invitation and passport for clearance.

"Oh, I'm not a nun or have anything to do with churches or whatever. I dress like a nun but I'm actually a traveling fortune teller."

"Waaah! A fortune teller!" she shouted in excitement. "Oh! Tell my fortune, please! Tell my fortune! When am I going to meet my prince charming?" she said extending her palm toward me.

"Haha, I don't think now is the right time, miss."

"Tracy. Tracy Cooperfield," she said bowing her head.

I bowed my head in return and said, "Louis Federland. I apologize, Ms. Cooperfield but I think your fortune telling has to wait since you still have a lot of customers waiting in line," I said to her pointing behind me. She looked over my shoulders and saw the grumpy customers waiting in line. "Haha! I guess fortune telling really has to wait," she replied while handing me my ticket. As I was about to leave, Tracy suddenly came out of her booth and ran towards me.

"So, uhm, yeaaaaah... Do you mind waiting for me in about half an hour when my break starts? Because I soooo desperately want to know my fortune regarding my prince charming," she said with a big smile on her face. I sighed in defeat as I gave her a nod and told her that I will be waiting by the magazine stand. She smiled at me and gave me a thumbs up before running back to her booth.

"What a weird girl," I mumbled with a little smile on my face. "I guess the day is not going to be too bad after all." I waved at her from the booth as I head towards the magazine stand.
