After letting me stare at the Island for another five minutes, Peter led me down to a meadow in the jungle.
I started to look around, admiring the wild plant life and the fresh scent in the wind, far removed from the concrete and stale air of the city, but paused when I noticed Peter had developed an odd expression.
"So... I'm gonna have to leave you here for a bit."
"What? Why? I thought you would be taking me to camp..." I trailed off, suddenly very worried. Had I done something wrong? How long would I be left alone here? I already loved Neverland, but that didn't mean I wanted to be abandoned here.
He must have sensed where my thoughts were going, because he came over and put his hand on my shoulder. "Hey, don't worry. I'll be back in an hour, hour and a half tops. I.. uh I kinda have to explain you to the other Lost Boys."
I liked how he said 'other Lost Boys', meaning I was included with them. Wait. "What do you mean... explain me?" Was there something weird about me that needed explanation? Was I such a freak they needed to be warned?
He again seemed to know what I was thinking. "Hey hey, no I don't mean it like that. Look, Jen," He chucked me under the chin, derailing my train of thoughts. "You're perfect. What I meant was... I didn't exactly tell them I was bringing you. It was a bit of a split-second decision."
"Really? Why?"
"Well... I had been thinking about it. I wanted to. But it wasn't till last night I decided to. And once I decided...I couldn't stand leaving you there, even if it was for only one more day." His eyes darkened, and suddenly he seemed dangerous. Wild in a way that suited the jungle around us, like a panther or something. "I couldn't leave you with that monster for any longer."
I shuddered. I wasn't sure if it was due to the memory of my father, or the sudden realisation that Peter had helped me escape from him, and the dangerous gleam in his eyes was for me.
"Thank you..."
He broke eye contact with me, and looked down, taking a step back so he wasn't crowding me as before. "Of course. You're on of my boys now. And soon the other's will know it. Though..." He hesitated for a second, and then sighed. "You should know it might not be a warm welcome. Some recent events have put a strain on the all of us, and I won't be surprised if they don't appreciate me bringing in someone new."
"So... they won't like me then?"
"No, they will." He reassured, a smile making his face bright again. I noticed he had a dimple on one side. "They will just have to get to know you first."
I nodded, unwilling to disagree with him when he was looking at me like that.
"Good. You should be fine here, it's not near the camp but it's still in our territory. Plus the faeling dust will still last a while. I'll be back, Alright?"
"Alright. Go tell them you brought home a new puppy."
He chuckled, "Alright then. See you soon, pup." And he took off with a wink.
....
After Pan callously left me to my own company in a gorgeous meadow of soft grass and flowers, I had spent a bit of time just sitting in said grass, running my hands over the springy green velvet carpet of my new home, when I noticed something odd about aforementioned flowers. One of them was glowing.
I cautiously crept closer, not wanting to end up like that guy in the blue aliens movie who decided to mess with unknown plant life.
Just as I was almost close enough, what appeared to be a small ball of purplish orange tinged light flew out of the flower and right into my face.
"OH DEAR." I yelped, attempting to back up from the sudden intrusion, only to trip over myself and fall.
The light followed, and my eyes finally focused on it enough for me to realise there was something in the light. Or rather, someone.
