Arriving at the castle in the late hours with an accused thief while trying to sneak in is a lot harder than what you might think.

The stableboy, whom was one of the few who knew about our little adventures, was waiting at the gate. The guards on duty were no where to be found, meaning Sir Victor did his part.

Sir Victor is one of a kind in my opinion. An older Knight, one who's manners are impeccable as is his swordsmanship. His loyalty to Verena is highly respected, but he did have his dark side.

Sir Victor was the one who told me about the wonders of going on adventures. He challenged me day by day to live by no ones rules, to be myself while still bearing the crown. He taught me things that no princess should learn. Under his care I've learned to use a sword, how to strategize as if in battle, and how to be cunning when sneaking away without raising suspicions.

Sir Victor is a wonderful mentor whom I'm eternally grateful for.

"It's clear, Milady." The stableboy, Gabe, called out and ushered us into the gate. I slid off the horse after Ian. Heath, on the other hand, took his time getting into the gate and getting off the horse he rode.

"Speed things along, thief." Ian glared at him as he handed the reins to Gabe.

"What's the hurry? Is there a reason you're being so secretive in your own castle, Princess of Verena?" Heath addressed me, ignoring Ian fully.

"I'm not supposed to leave the castle, but I do anyway. Just because I'm a princess, doesn't mean I shouldn't live my own life, don't you agree?" I answered in a hushed tone. Heath grinned at me, bowing his head in respect afterwards.

"You're not different from myself then, Princess of Verena. We both break the rules to live our life. I can't blame you for wanting to be free, it's human instinct." Heath looked up at the stone castle walls. "It looks like a prison, just dollied up for royally." Heath scoffed softly before meeting my gaze. "No escape from reality. Tragic, isn't it? Everyone looks at you with envy and jealousy, but you're more trapped then your own prisoners. No one knows what you keep buried inside, what you put up with, just so they can see the grace and power in your eyes. I already respect you, Princess of Verena."

My heart skipped and swelled within my chest. It was as if he read my mind, it made me feel vulnerable around him. Though it might seem dangerous to most, it made me want to be around him more. It was nice to have someone say what I was too afraid to say.

"Your highness." A voice pulled me out of my trance. When I looked to see who had spoke, I noticed my eyes had begun to water. I blinked back the tears before the spilled.

"Let's go." Ian spoke again, grabbing my arm gently and pulling me forward. I don't know why I had begun to cry, I didn't want to. I wanted to hold it in, no one should see the weakness in me. Father always told me that tears were for the weak and helpless, and that I shouldn't lower myself to that title.

Father was a harsh man, but he ran the kingdom without failure. He was a stone hearted man, but loved and cared for his people greatly.

Some times it makes me want to be a commoner as well. Maybe he'd love me more then. The voice in my head whispered, causing my heart to hurt.

Ian pulled me in through the kitchens door, the way we usually came in when we snuck back in. Heath stayed close behind us and kept his hands on his pockets.

"Go to your chambers, Milady. I have business to attend to before I report to Sir Victor." Ian grabbed Heath's arm roughly. Heath just grinned at me , showing me his dazzling smile.

"Wait." I called to Ian before he got too ahead of me. "I'll take him."

"No. That's not the responsibility of a princess. Go to your chambers, now." Ian seemed miffed about the fact I wasn't doing what I was told to do.
