'You got this Levi. Just go apologize. If she hates you forever then you can deal with it' I thought to myself as I saw Maybelline at her locker, currently by herself. I didn't know how long I would have before her friends came by, and considering they all accused me of physically a using this poor girl just yesterday I really didn't want to deal with them for a second time. Swallowing my pride I stepped over to her, tapping her shoulder. She turned around and, shockingly, didn't look like she was going to punch me in the face. Instead she just looked expectant as she waited for me to say my piece. "Hello." My voice sounded dry. I cleared my throat as I continued, "My name is Levi." "I know, Amy told me yesterday who you were." Even her voice was pretty. It was soft, almost music like. It also wasn't harsh, or rude in any way. It was just, talking. No judgement at all, and this surprised me. "Oh well..I just..." I had to take a minute to regain my courage. "I would like to apologize for, well firstly for ruining your clothes, and then for running out on you." This actually made her laugh, which again surprised me, and I guess the surprise showed on my face because she started talking again. "I was asking for trouble coming to school in all white, besides, I should've given you more room to get out of your chair." "Really? You're not mad?" I was very surprised, I had ruined her clothes, wasn't that justified grounds for hating me? "I was at first but, I got over it. Wasn't your fault and, in spite of Amy's accusations, I know it wasn't intentional." She smiled at me, I couldn't help but smile back. "My name is Maybelline." "Mine is Levi" I blushed. "But you already knew that." She giggled at my remark, "Well Levi, it was nice to meet you. Maybe we can meet up again during biology." "You knew we had bio together?" I couldn't stop the question before I asked it, I bit my lip but it seemed that my questioning didn't bother her. "Of course I remember, it's not everyday you get a cute boy in your class." "Oh May, is he bothering you again." Amy stated, somehow sneaking up behind me. "No, actually I was just leaving. Got some boys waiting on me, you know what that's like don't you Amy?" I winked at her frown as I walked away, a confident bounce in my step. 'She thinks I'm cute'I swore the smile on my face was so big it could rip my face apart.
I was in much better spirits that night during supper. I had helped mom set the table and even poured up her water. "Well isn't someone extra helpful tonight." She commented on my behaviour as she settled herself in her chair. "Just in a good mood tonight." I said, smiling at her. She put a bite of pasta into her mouth, and I picked up that she was wanting me to explain. A perk to having a mom who kept you in sight practically all the time, it was easy to pick up on her little ticks and reading her was extremely simple. "I apologized, for staining her clothes and running away instead of helping her." I started, "And how did that go?" Mom asked me, I watched her take the water glass to her lips and take a small sip. "It went really well actually" I tried a bite of pasta, found it a little bit so took a mouthful of Cola to cool my lips. "She wasn't mad, I thought she would be and was completely prepared for it but she was t which was surprising." "How could she be? My son is adorable." I rolled my eyes at mom's comment but continued my story, when I finally made it to Maybelline's compliment I grinned again. "She thinks I'm cute" Mom gave me a playful smile, "And she wants to start talking to me in biology." "See what happens when you act like a real man? You get the girl." I smiled at mom, even though she was crazy at times and I worried over her being alone, she always had my back. "Thank you for the advice Mom. I think I would've really screwed myself over with this girl if you hadn't gotten me to apologize." She smiled at me as she gathered the empty dishes. "It's what I'm here for Levi. To guide you in times your boy brain can't help you." "Hey! My 'boy brain' has helped me make it to sixteen." I said, dropping my plates into the sink with a slight clatter. That earned me a light jab in the ribs from mom's elbow. "Hey! Child abuse!" I yelled, and then I had to run away when she started threatening me with the soap bottle. The last time I called her bluff with the dish soap I had sticky hair for a week. Making it up to my room I decided to sit down with my sketchbook a bit. I tapped the eraser on the blank page, before finding my inspiration. 'Maybelline' .
