I honestly am regretting making the decision to go to this reunion. My nerves have been all over the place, and I have gotten less sleep than I usually get. When I told my parents about me going and that 'he' would be there, they both started giving me advice and told me that no matter what I do I needed to stay away from him. This was what I was originally going to do.
But I couldn't change my mind now, I was already packed, and in my car on my way to meet at the college. We were all meeting at the college then going straight to the plane station and taking off to Hawaii were we will then get on the cruise and head out.
Another thing about this trip is that I am driving in the dark and I feel so tired since I haven't gotten that much sleep in the past week. I feel like I am going to fall asleep, but at least I have tons of coffee that I brought with me.
I was about five minutes away from the college when I started to have some flashbacks of 'him'.
"Come on babe, the play starts in five minutes and we are going to be late if you don't hurry up." Michael yelled to me through the door.
I stepped out and saw Michael's mouth drop open as he looked at me in my elegant floor length blue dress. I smirked and kissed his lips. "Close those lips babe; it's just me in a dress." I said teasingly.
He looked at me with a soft expression. "I love you so much baby girl. If I ever do anything to hurt you then I am so sorry. You are my angel and I hope to spend all my life making sure that you know that." He then softly kissed me on my lips.
I felt a tear escape as I remembered this memory. That night we got engaged and had sex for the first and only time. Then the next day he broke my heart. He never even tried to contact me, and when I did try to call him a woman answered the phone. I figured it must have been his new girlfriend so I hung up and never tried again. I changed my number and never looked back, until now.
I shake my head, "You are stronger than this. Don't let this man get under your skin again. You went through to much pain and obstacles to ever go back. So when you see him act normal, act like he doesn't exist and that he didn't break your heart." I wiped my tears off and put on the best smile I could muster. I can do this, I am strong, and it's only a week. So it will be over before you know it.
I pulled my car into a spot that was far away from the spot I used to park in, and stepped out of the car. I let out a squeal as I saw my best friend from college, Alicia. She saw me and we both ran up to each other hugging the life out each other.
"Oh my gosh, Maryanne you look so good. You grew up into a beautiful woman. How have you been?" She asked me.
"Ahhh...you know ive been alright. I'm a high school teacher so they keep me on my toes. But what about you gorgeous I heard that you married a Mr. Dane Hulks the one guy you couldn't stand in college. The guy who swore that he would be with you, but you swore that you wouldn't ever be with him." She blushed as I said this.
"Yea, he turned out to be the love of my life. He started working for my dad right after college and he finally became a little mature and so I gave him a chance. We are actually expecting our first child in five months." She said in excitement.
I looked at her more closely and saw that she did indeed have a small baby bump. "Congratulations I know that you wanted a family." I told her a little sadly we both wanted the same thing, and it looked like I wouldn't be getting that anytime soon.
"Oh, honey. Your time will come. The right man is out there for you somewhere and he will come in your life when you least expect it. Plus I think that you are about to meet him. I have this feeling down deep in my soul." I smiled at her.
"Well it's really good seeing you. I can't wait to catch up with you this is going to be a fun week. Dane is getting our stuff out of our car so I can help you with anything that you need help with." She told me.
"Oh, I've got it. I brought to rolling suit cases so I can carry all of it, which I need to go get, so I'll meet up with you in a little while." I told her happily.
"Okay, see you in a little while. Oh and after you put your stuff on the bus that we are taking to the airport we all need to go the auditorium. Which you probably already knew that because of the email they sent. Anyways I'll see you in a little while." She then gave me a hug and ran off to her husband.
I smiled at her and turned back around to my car. I went to the trunk and used my car key to open it. I grabbed my bags and sat them on the ground, then closed the trunk and locked my door. I started walking down the concrete path towards the auditorium when a trunk pulled up right beside my car. I looked at the passenger and felt my heart jump into my throat. There was the main reason I couldn't ever love anyone, Michael Sanders.
Time had been good to him, he had grown into some muscles and he didn't seem to have a gray hair on him.
I didn't realize I was staring until he looked me in the eyes, and a unrecognizable look entered his eyes. He got out of his truck and it looked like he was going to say something, but I turned around and went straight into the auditorium. I wouldn't get myself mixed up with him; I couldn't go through that pain again.
I entered the room and instantly went to sit with Alicia. She must have saw how troubled I looked because she leaned in and whispered, "What's wrong?" When she said this she got a look of understanding on her face when Michael entered into the room and looked straight at me. "Oh, him. No worries hon. I won't let him bother you."
I smiled at her and completely ignored 'his' stare. He wasn't going to get to me I kept whispering in my head.
I saw out of the corner of my eye as he looked a little dejected, but then he went over and sat down next to another man I never wanted to see again, Trace Parker. I saw Michael whisper something to Trace and they both looked over to me. I made sure not to look at either of them.
This is definitely going to be a long week I thought to myself.
As I was ignoring them a really skinny bubbly blond entered on the stage. "Hey, guys. My name is Becca I am the one who called you all a couple of weeks ago. I'm just here to make sure that everybody who is scheduled to go is here. When I call your name say here. Alright, Alicia Hulks..." and she went on calling out everyone's name. When she called mine I felt a little embarrassed considering I was the only woman who didn't seem to have been married yet.
"Alright everyone seems to be here. Everyone go ahead and get on the bus. We are off to the airport. I do though however need to speak to Maryanne Phillips and Michael Sanders right quick."
I felt dread in my stomach as I walked to the stage. I could feel Michael looking at me as we both got closer together. When we got to the stage I looked over and saw a soft look on Michaels face as he looked at me. I quickly looked away and saw Becca giving us a huge grin.
"Okay, so since we paid for both of your tickets we went ahead and got both of you the deluxe suit. The only thing is that you two will be sharing a room. It has two bedrooms, so yall will basically not be in the same room it is just the yalls rooms are joined together and yall will have to share a bathroom and kitchen." I stared horrified at her.
"That sounds great!" I looked over at Michael and glared at him.
"That isn't great. Why didn't you tell me this before? I haven't seen this man for five years and I sure don't want to share a room with someone I don't know." I said with anger in my voice.
Becca looked a little surprised when I said. "Oh, I'm sorry. Usually when we do something this big we pair up the co-valedictorians. It is just a way to save us money. I'm really sorry about the inconvenience." She said, and she truly did look sorry.
I caught Michael's eye as he about to say something, but I interrupted him. "It's fine. It's not like we are sharing a room together. I'll take it." I told her and she instantly perked up again.
"Great. Lets get to the bus now. We have a long trip together." I walked off as soon as she said that, ignoring Michael who seemed like he was trying to say something.
