Friday evenings.
The hardest moments of my life.
"Are you leaving already? C'mon, such a sexy bartender should have some fun!" I chuckled as I dried off one of the last few glasses while swinging my hips to the beat of the music. My shift would end in a few minutes, meaning that I had to clean the last few glasses before I left.
Normal guys my age would stay after work and enjoy the party with their friends, but I had other things to do. I would love to just stay and drink, but if I did, I would get myself in more trouble than I already am. And let's just say... I can't afford much more trouble...
"Sorry, Lou. I'm tired. I've been here the whole night, remember? You went home and slept, I've been here from 6 already."
Lying to your best friend is always tricky, but I've been lying to all of my friends ever since last year, so you can say I became a pro at lying.
"But you're Irish! You should be able to go a whole night without sleep!"
A laugh escaped my mouth as I shook my head. He was already tipsy, but I knew his limits. I always made sure he didn't drink too much, but sometimes... I just enjoy the way he is when he's drunk. He's a fun drunk, or more a happy drunk. That's probably reason number one why I let him drink every night I have my shift.
"Your way of thinking how Irish people are is just amusing, Louis. Now drink up so I can take you home."
"Take me home? Are we gonna have sex, Ni?" he had this confused expression on his face that made me laugh.
God, he's a hand full.
"No, Lou. You're going to bed and I'm going home myself. I just can't leave you here alone, seeing you won't be getting home anytime soon if it isn't for me."
"Horan, switch!"
I turned to my right and smiled as I saw Liam. He always has the shifts after me. He's so sweet and caring. Last time I forgot about Louis, and Liam brought him home for me. I was really glad I could always count on him.
"Are you going to be alright here alone? I know Derek should be here soon."
Liam only smiled and shook his head. "I'll be fine. It's only Friday. Most people are just dancing and having a good time."
He was right. Friday nights were actually calm. Lots of people came on Saturdays or Sundays and Friday evenings were mostly just for those who wanted to dance and have fun. We didn't sell much on Fridays in general.
"Alright then. See you tomorrow, mate!"
Liam took someone's order before taking a glass and filling it with a vodka martini. "Yeah, hey Ni!" I turned back around and nodded. "Don't forget, tomorrow is a full night. Gonna be a mess here. I can use your help."
Fuck, I forgot...
"I'll see if I can make it, man." I padded his back once and took a sip from the drink he was making. The girl for who the drink was only played with her hair and looked intensely at me.
Sometimes I love to be a bartender...
"No, bro, seriously. No funny business. You have to be here."
"Li, I have plans, I can't just cancel!"
Liam shook his head and was about to say something when someone asked for another drink. I helped out grabbing a glass and some ice while Liam grabbed everything together to create a mojito royal. "I'm just saying, Ni. It's going to be way too crowded. For the first time in months we have this huge party and we can use all the help." He handed over the drink to the guy who asked for it and placed the cash in his pocket. It's not that Liam steals or anything, I do it all the time, it's easier to keep the business here on a roll. You don't have to put all the money in the desk all the time.
