I dug the palm of my hand into my eye, harshly rubbing it. I think it was around 5 Am, the world was only starting to wake up. So far, there was no chaos.
"Bad morning"
I snickered as I slid out of my bed. My body was aching from the previous nights sleep. I still don't know if what happened, had actually happened.
Time to go and find out.
The cold, rough wood of the floor scraped my warm, naked feet.
My balance was really off but I was too intrigued to stay in bed for another hour or so like I usually do.
My hands attatched onto whatever stability I could get and my heart began to race when I neared closer to Kala's bedroom.
It was completely silent.
"Kala?"
I whispered into the abyss before me. I forced my shaking hand to turn the gold handle of her ominous bedroom door.
"I'm coming in"
Maybe she was just sleeping. It was only 5 Am. It would make sense that she hasn't woken up yet. Who really would of?
But Kala wasn't sleeping. Kala wasn't even home.
"Fuck!"
I gasped as I collapsed on to the floor. Splinters pierced my bare legs but I didn't care because I had lost her.
It wasn't a dream, she was gone and it was all my fault. My fault.
"Azlyn?"
Uncle Damien was running up the stairs behind me. The worry in his voice made me cry harder.
"Azlyn.. What's going on?"
"Kala's gone"
I breathed, shakily.
My hands were wrapped around my bloody legs and my head was tucked away inside my pyjama top.
"Oh Azlyn. Come here"
He reached out and scooped my trembling body off of the floor and carried me downstairs to the kitchen.
He sat with me in his lap until I had stopped crying.
I wasn't only sad, I was utterly confused.
Why wasn't Uncle Damien upset?
"Uncle Damien. I'm-"
"Azlyn, this is not your fault okay?"
I shook my head so that he knew I understood him. Which I did, i just didn't believe him.
He began rummaging through cupboards for food until he found a loaf of dry bread.
"We're out of water. Want me to go instead?"
My life couldn't evolve around Kala, I couldn't just stay in and weep all day, I had to get my mind off of it.
"No.. I'll, I can go"
"You sure Azlyn. If you want I-"
"I'm sure"
Wiping my tears, I stood up. That's when I realised just how rugged I actually looked.
Uncle Damien had pulled out the splinters that had scarred my skin, so all that remained was the dried blood which ran down my legs.
"You get washed up"
He said once he saw me eyeballing myself.
After I had changed and bandaged up my legs, I grabbed one of my many satchels.
I like to think of them as souvenirs.
"Be back before-"
"Sun set, I know"
I cut him off. I forced a smile before spinning out of the door.
My face was hit by a sudden breeze. It was still early which meant I could go as far as I wanted.
An hour or so of travelling lead me to a small, hidden building.
I hadn't recognised this place before.
My hand gripped my pocket knife as I pulled myself onto the roof of the house.
If there was anyone here, I'd have a hight advantage.
I swung myself over gaps and spikes until I reached an opening which lead down into the main building.
There was voices mumbling inside. It was unclear what they were talking about. But there was one voice I recognised.
"You heard her. No time to waste"
"But Ash, it's a girl. And not only a girl, a smart little bitch"
"Ash"
I scowled as I crawled into one of the top rooms. I had a full view of Ash and his gang.
They were all around a large table that sat comfortably in the centre of the room.
I couldn't jump down, that was a death wish. But, I had to know more about what they were talking about.
"Hmm"
I whispered as I devised a small plan inside my head.
If I could swing across the beams which held up the ceiling, then I could easily land into the room opposite theirs.
"On the count of three Azlyn"
One.
I leaned closer to the edge and began rocking myself.
"Find her now, Hunter"
"If you're sure sir"
Two.
Back and forth. Back and forth.
My body was now in full swing, all I had to do was jump over.
Thre-
"Hey! Hey who's that?!"
A member of the gang yelled loudly and pointed at me, everyone else looked up.
But it was too late, I was on three and I had jumped across but the shouts startled me, causing me to fall.
I gripped the side of the beam tightly.
"Who are you?"
Ash gestured to two of the members to run upstairs and grab me.
As the boys pattered up the metal steps, I decided just to slide down the beam.
Maybe if I was quick enough, I'd escape before anyone caught me.
I was wrong.
Once I reached the ground a boy called Avarice snatched both of my arms and held them violently behind my back.
"Let me go! Let me go!"
Pleading didn't help me at all. It actually caused me more pain because Avarice kicked my sore body on to the ground.
I was now in huge trouble.
"Oh look guys. It's kitty. Nice for you to visit"
Ash teased as he spat in my face. Avarice was still holding on to me.
"Why you so far out kitty?"
He continued. His sarcastic pout made me hate him more.
"Fuck off"
I spat back at him. The gang backed up away from us.
"Get your little slave off of me Ash or I swear-"
"You know my name? I'm flattered"
He laughed. God how I wanted to kick him in the balls again.
"Avarice. Move"
He said more bluntly and Avarice silently obeyed.
"How kind"
I cut my eyes at Avarice as I stood up.
My jeans and top were covered with dust and hair. I tried to brush myself down but it was no use. The dirt stuck firmly on to my clothes.
"You know my name, so what's yours?"
Ash asked, approaching me with a large blade in his hand.
"Kitty"
I scowled. He instantly grabbed my hair and put his sharp knife to my neck. My heart pumped heavily and my throat tightened.
"You're very funny. Shouldn't such a pretty little bitch like you belong in the palace?"
The knife neared to my neck. I felt Ash's fist pull harder on my greasy hair.
"What's your name?"
He gritted his teeth at me.
"It's Azlyn, you psychopath!"
I gasped quickly.
He loosened his hand on my hair and pulled back his knife.
"Azlyn?"
I nodded. A disgusting smirk grew across his pale face.
"Boys. Put this bitch in the chamber"
"The chamber?!"
I exclaimed as four boys rushed over to me and dragged me along to a small, dimly lit room.
They threw me in and slammed the metal door shut.
Great. I was now trapped.
