kyungsoo woke up to the smell of pancakes and the sound of kyungmi humming some obscure song. "what are you doing?" he asked as she waltzed into the room, carrying a tray full of breakfast. "it's like 8am," he commented, large, dark eyes landing on the clock behind her eccentric figure.

"i made breakfast! early to bed, early to rise, makes a person healthy, wealthy, and wise!"

"are you okay?" he sat up fully in bed as she placed the tray on his lap, the back of his hand instinctively reaching for her forehead. not feeling a fever, he mumbled, "insomnia; lack of sleep." louder, he said, "are you getting enough sleep?"

she laughed, gently placing a hand on his shoulder. "dude, i'm great! chanyeol says he wants to meet you today, if you're free."

kyungsoo pondered about this for a couple moments, and realizing that he really didn't have anywhere to go, agreed to meeting this chanyeol character. chanyeol must be a kind, polite boy, considering how kyungmi was. kyungsoo would be lying if he said that he wasn't anxious to meet him.

after swallowing the contents of the breakfast that kyungmi brought him, he got up and went to shower. she had already picked out an outfit for him, because she wanted everything to be perfect and go smoothly.

"i'll be sure to embarrass you," kyungsoo teased, nudging her arm with his elbow as he dried his hair.

she pouted, "please don't. you get to the level of embarrassing where even suho would cringe."

chuckling, kyungsoo ruffled her hair. "i won't, don't worry." she stepped forwards to hug him, her arms going under his.

soon, the two had stepped out, arm in arm. kyungsoo decided to drive this time around, because kyungmi seemed a little too excited to be driving safely. carefully parking in the lot, kyungmi was the first to open her door, rushing to kyungsoo's side to help him out.

"yah, calm down," kyungsoo said, but his nerves were firing off too, making him more nervous and anxious than he already was. as they stepped into the warm café, kyungmi mumbled something about chanyeol not being there yet. "should we order something while we wait?" kyungsoo asked her as they took a seat at a cozy booth in the corner, her sitting across from him.

the walls of the café were painted in warm, homely colours, books lining the walls and candles lit on every table. the smell of freshly ground coffee wafted through the air, making kyungsoo close his eyes and inhale deeply.

"yeah, let's order, but we'll wait on chanyeol's order because he's really picky about it," kyungmi laughed, telling the barista her and kyungsoo's order.

as she returned with two cups, she set them down on the table. her eyes drifted to the tall figure walking into the café, her eyes lighting up, running towards him to hug him. kyungsoo was nervous.

"chanyeol!" she exclaimed, her voice high and excited. chanyeol mumbled something that kyungsoo didn't hear as he drank his macchiato in large gulps. he could hear the pair coming closer, his heart beating heavier with each step they took. "kyungsoo, meet chanyeol."

kyungsoo nearly choked on his drink when he turned around.

there, with his hands around kyungmi's waist, was a very familiar tall boy, his brown hair ruffled and dark jeans ripped.

"yah! it's you!?" chanyeol let go of kyungmi, now pointing at kyungsoo. "have you been stalking me?! look, i know i-"

"you two know each other?" came kyungmi's perplexed voice, watching the two boys stare each other down.

kyungsoo raised his eyebrow. "yeah, as a matter of fact, we do."

chanyeol looked like he was ready to strangle kyungsoo, a wild look in his dark brown eyes. his hair was neat, he was wearing skinny jeans and a hoodie, and he was breathing heavily. the whole time, their eyes hadn't left each other's, an aura of tension surrounding the two as kyungmi watched on, confused.

"let's take a seat, hm?" she tried to neutralize the situation, whatever it was.

the two begrudgingly sat down at the booth, kyungmi taking a seat next to kyungsoo. "wanna explain to me how you two know each other?"

chanyeol didn't need any more encouragement. "yeah! i went to this restaurant twice and he messed my order up both times! like what the hell, man!"

kyungmi raised her eyebrows. "ah, so you're the one he told me about."

"he told you about me? what'd he say?"

kyungmi playfully rolled her eyes. "that you're the cutest, that's what." she reached forwards, tugging on his cheeks and he gave her a toothy grin, deep laughter erupting from his lips.  kyungsoo made a sound of utter disgust, causing kyungmi to shoot him an apologetic look. "well, since i love you both dearly, you're gonna have to get along." successfully diffusing the stressful situation, she clasped both their hands, one in each of hers.

kyungsoo waved his other hand dismissively, sipping on his macchiato. "yeah, sure."

chanyeol, to kyungsoo's surprise, smiled warmly and extended his hand. "if it's for kyungmi, i'll be willing to give us a chance. as friends, obviously." he was quick to correct his words.

hesitantly putting down his cup, kyungsoo raised an eyebrow. "for kyungmi," he repeated, firmly grasping chanyeols larger hand, letting go of kyungmi's.

"for kyungmi."

one final shake, and they awkwardly pulled their hands back, kyungmi beaming next to kyungsoo.

let's give him a chance.

with one final look at chanyeol and kyungmi, he downed his drink, licking his lips.
