Eventually, the moment came. The moment Luke had been dreading for weeks. School.
He didn't mind school that much, actually. He just hated how he was going to be the only one there who speaks fluent English, and didn't have a clue what anyone else was going to be saying. At least he had Calum and his friends to speak to.
"Luke, are you up?" His mum shouted from downstairs, which Luke replied to with a groan. "Get up! You're going to be late on your first day."
Signing, Luke reluctantly took himself out of bed and threw on a Sleeping With Sirens shirt, a beanie and black skinny jeans with a rip in the knee.
Hurriedly, he threw a couple of pancakes into the toaster as he began to pack his bag.
"You got your books? Pens? Erasers? Folders? Binder? Penci-"
"Mum." Luke sighed, rolling his eyes. "I have everything. I'll be fine."
"Sorry. I'm just worried about my little baby," His mum smiled, pinching Luke's cheeks.
Luke sighed once again as he took his pancakes out the toaster. "Whatever. I'm 16 now mum, I'm not a baby."
"You're still my little baby."
"Ugh, you're so embarrassing sometimes," Luke said with a groan.
"Am not. Anyway, hurry up. You're already five minutes behind schedule, you should have left by now. Now do you remember where to go? Where I showed you last night?"
"Yeah, I know." Luke said, grabbing his school bag as he began to walk through the door. "Bye, I'll see you later."
As he walked to school, he spotted a familiar figure crossing the road along from his.
"Hey, Luke!" Calum said, as he ran up towards him. "Ready for school?"
"Definitely not," He sighed. "I'm kinda nervous."
"Don't be nervous," Calum smiled, placing a hand on Luke's back. "School not too bad. People are very nice there. Well.. most of them."
Luke nodded, walking beside Calum. "Are Ashton and Michael coming too?"
"Ashton, yes. Michael.. maybe? I do not know. He doesn't come very often. He hates it. I think he would like to be a musician and drop out."
Luke silently prayed Michael would be at school. He didn't know what it was, but something about the blue haired boy he was drawn to. He was somewhat angelic.
"Ah, look. We're here."
Luke stared at the building in front of him, feeling extremely nervous and sick. What if nobody liked to talk to him? What if everyone avoids him?
"Luke. Do not worry," Calum said as he noticed Luke's worried expression. "Will be fine. I'm your friend, remember?"
Luke nodded, feeling a bit more relieved. He had Calum to talk to, if no one else.
As the pair walked through the school doors, Luke instantly felt all eyes on him.
He heard mumbles as soon as he began to look around him, making eye contact with a couple of people.
"Calum, everyone's looking at me," Luke mumbled through gritted teeth.
"What? Oh. Come on, follow me." Calum said, motioning Luke towards him as they both made their way to a music room.
As soon as they entered, Luke was greeted with two familiar faces – Ashton and Michael.
"Bonjour!" Calum smiled, shutting the door behind him. "Luke join here today."
"Bonjour," Ashton and Michael said in unison. Michael smiled putting his guitar which was on his lap down on the table.
"School commence in fifteen minuits," Calum said, attempting to include both languages in his sentence. Michael's English wasn't fantastic in all honesty however Ashton's wasn't too bad. His mum was American so it helped.
"Oh, d'accord." Michael said, nodding. "Luke, what class you got first?"
Luke pulled out his schedule, reading over the timetable. "Art with Ms... Florence?"
"Me too!" Ashton smiled excitedly, showing Luke his own schedule and comparing the two. "We have lots of classes together."
That relieved Luke slightly, at least he didn't have to be in class alone. He had Ashton. It wasn't Michael (who he was kind of praying to have all his classes with) but it would do.
Ashton walked with Luke to class after the two waved goodbye to Calum and Michael.
"Teacher is really nice," Ashton smiled as he lead Luke into the classroom. "Don't worry."
Luke smiled gratefully as Ashton and nodded.
Once he walked into the classroom, he was greeted by a lady with reddish hair and extremely blue eyes.
"Hi! You must be Luke? Very nice to meet you, I'm Ms. Florence. But don't be afraid to call me Flo."
Luke was kind of surprised at her good level of English, but smiled anyway.
"Nice to meet you too."
"Now, if you like you can take a seat next to... ah, yes. Ashton over there." Flo nodded, motioning over to where Ashton was sat with no one behind him.
Luke saw three boys snickering at the mention of Ashton's name, and he raised an eyebrow but walked to his seat anyway.
Soon, the teacher began to speak in French again and Luke had no idea what she was saying mainly due to the fact he still hadn't gotten my translator for school yet, but Ashton managed to help him out.
"We do portrait. Then write what we insecure about in background." Ashton said, trying his best to explain.
"Thanks," Luke whispered as the classroom began to quieten down again and instantly got to work on his drawing.
——
So far, Luke's day wasn't too bad. All his classes included Ashton and they had even grown closer during the day. They realised they had so much in common like video games and reading and music tastes. It was actually kind of great.
As the boys all sat around the table, Ashton was stuck in his mind. However, despite this, he couldn't stop himself from staring at Michael. He didn't know what it was. The boy just fascinated him. All he wanted to do was stare at him all day.
And obviously – Luke being Luke – he was just still so fucking oblivious to see Ashton staring at him.
And Ashton was confused because they'd only known each other a couple of days yet seeing Luke staring at Michael made Ashton really worked up and jealous.
Why? He had absolutely no idea.
